Week 5: Elder(2-2) vs. Louisville St. Xavier(2-1)

Tough loss. E had their chances to win this game but too many mistakes. The Holding call to start the 4th with E at the X 40 up 4 was crippling. E had X on the ropes, but getting behind the sticks is a big issue for the Offense.

This honestly came down to two critical 3rd down plays.
Elder failed to convert on 3rd and 3 down 4.
X successfully converted on an out pass on 3rd and 5 up 4.

It seems Roncalli is actually pretty tough looking at their scores? Are they a big school in Indy? Who are they comparable to on the schedule?

Hey, hey, hey, Trey is tired of hearing this crap please stop!

I just couldn't tell on the stream. I don't know if I've ever seen Ramsey get a personal foul called on him. He was that mad you would have to think there were some bad calls, or maybe one sided calls. Maybe Trey can fill us in.

If they didn’t throw a flag it wasn’t a penalty.

The officiating was fine. Elder simply made way too many mistakes.

Team has a losing record. I’m sure he just was extremely frustrated. I’m sure “bad calls” were made or “missed” but that stuff happens. This Team needs to get back in the Win column somehow. Road doesn’t get any easier.

It doesn't, but the team won't quit. The good news the days of only 8 teams making the playoffs are over. There is a lot of football left to be played. They improved on some things from last week, and there are still things they need to improve on.

That’s the objective. Win GCL, make Playoffs and in process get better everyday!

E was given a sideline warning earlier in the half. Ramsey was upset that I’m the final pass thrown by Elder where there was a battle bw the WR and DB that X wasn’t given a warning. He had a legit argument, but Elder should’ve never have let it get to that point

That’s not going to happen. To be blunt, they’ll be lucky to not get turbo clocked next week. X was down 4-5 starters on D and the Offense still only scored 21 points. The D played well in spurts, but they couldn’t get a stop when they really needed one. The individual specialists were solid, but the kick & punt coverage were bad again.

That would be one of the few things he’s right about. Elder had at least 5 false starts/illegal motion penalties, that’s not bad officiating, that’s sloppy play. Then you add in the bad tackling and this loss is on Elder.

I’ll say it again, they need more talent period. You can’t play this brutal schedule and expect to be successful unless you’re drawing in more talent. And they can do this within the boundaries of what is considered ethical, but there has to be a real commitment. You can’t win anything of substance at this point with only Feeder kids. The talent and numbers aren’t there. 6-7 wins is going to be the avg at best, when you combine the brutal schedule with the limited talent.

They’re between a rock and a hard place. They made the decision to double down on legacy when the world was (and still is) expanding around them. Because of history, because of tradition, and honestly, because of ego.

The west side world view is holding them back. In a lot of ways, pboy is very, very right. Im still convinced the masses are more concerned about them and theirs running out of that tunnel over competing with the big boys.

The level of individual talent Elder has seen over the last 5-10 years is nothing like the talent the feeder leagues produce. They need help to remain a consistent contender. He’s right. But the powers that be have to be willing to change their philosophies and mindsets.

If this is going to be their philosophy that they will not waver on, I’m starting to agree with pboy somewhat on the level of competition they play. They simply don’t have the horses to compete.

Open borders have somewhat started to create super teams with the consolidation of talent. Elder has to start taking advantage of it. But it’s going to require a leader to push it forward and not be afraid of the strong legacy backlash that’s bound to occur. That person will be very very hard to find, as no one wants to be the person that’s seen as the “traitor” or lacking loyalty, as it’s a hallmark of how the place operates. Not many are going to stick their necks out to try to set that course - but it’s needed.

High level D1 sports are completely different than they were 10 years ago. Open borders has changed the game completely.

Think of the days, not all too long ago, where West Hi was a somewhat competitive game. High school football at the highest level isn’t about neighborhood rivals, battle of the bands at halftime, and PHC after the game anymore.

It has evolved - you have to keep up. And if you continue to look at the evolution as “corrupt”, then don’t play the game anymore. Go back to playing Boone County, Oak Hills, and West Hi.

There is no one that’s going to have any sympathy for Elder.

I guess it’s ok to say this bc it’s not getting into specifics, but heard Paff is done for the year. Gigantic blow to a Defense which has not played well recently.

Nothing has gone right this year, it just one kick in the balls after the other. This team has good leadership with Ramsey and Hambleton, so I think they can still finish out with a respectable season but this season has just sucked so far.

You keep posting bs propaganda like this, and it really doesn't even make any sense. Did you go to elder? Or just like to troll on here or what? You've said this kinda stuff before, it really doesn't hold much weight or make any sense and seems like a lot of bollocks to me. Maybe if you're the only one who sees it this way, then you're the one with the problem? What should be most important is academic success and being taught how to be good young men, and from my experience, Elder does that tremendously. So whatever you're talking about, maybe belongs on another teams sports thread, I'd take an L in football any day opposed to changing the culture of the school to acting like a bunch of punk oak hills kids. Get a grip and take that bs on over to a different team's thread, after awhile your phony narrative falls upon deaf ears. I wake up to read about the game and have to see dumb like this, smh.

As with almost anything in life, there’s a middle ground. The best thing they can do is get as many kids as possible to shadow/visit Elder. If the kids want to be at Elder for the right reasons, then they’ll be able to make it work. If not, those kids will go somewhere else or transfer out of Elder. It’s ok if a stud Football player has Football as a main reason for choosing Elder. It’ll workout as long as he understands, academics and conduct are expected to be maintained.

Ironic you mention OH. There’s some good players in their middle school system, a few of which are interested in coming to Elder. They could be the difference bw a so-so class and really good class. They also should understand, they’re coming to be part of the culture, not have the culture adjust to them. That’s the benefit of having Elder grads coaching at those middle school programs

There’s a dual misconception: Elder culture is so inflexible, they can’t tolerate “outsiders” and that “outsiders” will destroy the culture. That’s just not true. There are some things Elder could do better, but anyone who buys in is welcome.

This year is tough bc there’s some glaring weaknesses and they just don’t have the depth to fix them.

Yeah not that much different from what I said. You want people to come to the school because they want to be there, understand the traditions and values of elder, that is how we have the best alumni in the world because it is a special place. Elder is not exclusive, I grew up poor and elder helped me as they do so many others. But what comes with going to elder is an expectation and upholding catholic values, and expectations shouldn't be lowered just to win a football game. Anybody with desire to attend elder has the opportunity, those who choose not to probably weren't a good fit to begin with.

Trey/UCArch is a habitual liar who doesn’t like Elder because they cut his kid and his neighbors kid some years ago. Pboy is an Elder Homer who is an admitted wuss and a non athletic person. The dumb ?? on here by those 2, you will wake up to every morning. Just a heads up but it never really stops. Basically a liar and a whiny little biatch ruin the Elder forum.

Thanks for the heads up hahaha that's hilarious.

He's had probably a handful in his almost 25 years at the helm. Ramsey is one of the more animated coaches at the HS level, but he definitely shows that he's in the team's corner no matter what.

I'm kind of confused again. People are talking about lack of depth. Are you kidding me with Elder's roster size and completely separate JV team? Talk to me when they are trying to compete at a high level with less than 50 total boys playing football grades 9-12. Depth is a strength for Elder and all GCL schools.

Now an honest question that may not go over very well. Why do fans and coaches believe that most of these boys standing on the sidelines can't play on Friday night? That is all strength and conditioning in the off-season. It seems every year, Elder has really solid Freshman teams but by the time they hit varsity, the strength component tips the other way with the GCL schools. How do you have 80+ on just a varsity roster and not be stronger than everyone else and have more depth than everyone except teams with 90+ on the varsity roster. There is no point to having that many kids if they can't play and contribute.

You can start with the Freshman Coaches not being very good (including my family member on the Frosh Staff). For a number of years been complaints on here of the Freshman Coaches “Running kids off” after freshman season. I don’t know much about the strength and conditioning guy to comment but the rest of the Elder Staff is really not all that good at player development. Large number of players mean nothing if they are not getting better at least yr to yr or over a 4 yr career.

Thanks for the heads up hahaha that's hilarious.
