The distance events for the boys look really good. The 1600, 3200, DMR, & 4x8 all have outstanding fields. The girls 3200 field also looks strong.

The guys' 200m @ Wayne is HOT!!!!

Prelims: Jordan Gross (Butler) - 21.27, Key'Shawn Garrett (Wayne) - 21.29, Coy Hyre (Brookville) - 21.32 - All LEGAL.

Just got back from the Wayne Invite, and wow, were some fast times dropped tonight! Winds were breezy out of the approaching rain out of the southwest, but only a few drops of rain came down. Temps dropped off, but as winds died down during the evening. Wayne's track is oriented in the West-to-East direction with the normal finish running east-to-west...into the prevailing winds. However, officials swapped directions for the 100m and short hurdle races to take advantage of the prevailing winds for the evening.

Here's the boys' summary:

Boys' 100m/200m - Butler's Jordan Gross won the double with probably the fastest ever 100/200 double in Ohio history with legal times of 10.35 (+0.9 wind) & 21.01 (+0.0) to turn back Coy Hyre (Brookville) and Jamier Averette-Brown (Wayne) in the 100m, while Key'Shawn Garrett (Wayne) took 2nd (21.11) and Hyre 3rd in the 200m (21.19). Gross moves to #2 Ohio all-time with the 100m win and #10 all-time in the 200m! Hyre moves to = #5 in the 100m, while Averette-Brown moves to #7 and just misses the Ohio sophomore record (10.41) by 0.01 seconds (Jonathan Burrell - Clev. John Marshall, 1991). Hyre just missed his own 200m PB by 0.03 seconds.

This was the best 100m dash in Ohio HS history for depth of the top 3, and most likely the 2nd best 200m ever.

Boys' 110m - Logan Wilkins' (Fairmont) 13.90 sec. turned back Keng Martin's (Wayne) 13.92 sec. for the win.

Boys' 300mH - Miles King (Olentangy Berlin) rockets to a 36.68 sec. win over the fine 37.01 by Keng Martin. King now #17 all-time in becoming the 2025 Ohio yearly leader.

Boys' 800m - Centerville's Daniel Emmert led 5 boys under 1:55 with his 1:52.53 win. Little noticed except to the Batavia team, in 10th place senior David Flandermeyer's 1:55.80 broke a 54-year old school record of a converted 1:56.5 880 yard time (1:55.9 MT converted to 800m) of the 1971 State Class A champion, Grady Reid!

Boys' 3200m - Charles Guerrera (Dublin Jerome) sprinted away on a fast last lap to the year's first sub-9 minute clocking of 8:59.34 (setting a new school record, I believe) in leading 5 other boys under 9:10 and 14 in all under 9:20. Guerrara moves to #17 all-time on the 3200m list, while 2nd placer Landen Eyre (Mowrystown Whiteoak) moves to #25 with his 9:01.59.

Boys' 4x100m - Wayne's quartet of Keng Martin, Key'Shawn Garrett, Semarion Sroufe, and Jamier Averette-Brown, already leading the 2025 lists with their 41.24 @ the Elk Relays, won here with a 41.25 clocking.

Boys' 4x200m - Again, Wayne demonstrated their dominance with a 1:25.46 school record win, moving Wayne to the #5 fastest school in Ohio history with the 10th fastest performance all-time. Can anyone confirm the quartet was the same from earlier this year of Robert Redd, Key'Shawn Garrett, Sean Heisle, and Semarion Sroufe?

Boys' 4x400m - Vandalia Butler, anchored by super senior Jordan Gross, became the 13th fastest team in Ohio history with their 3:14.66 clocking to destroy the field. The quartet was Tayven Crump, Levi Campbell, Brayden Thaxton, Jordan Gross.

Boys' Pole Vault - In light left-handed crosswinds, 6 boys cleared 15 feet, with two clearing an additional bar at 15' 6". Chesapeake's Corey Davis took the win at that height over Centerville's Ethan Ireland.

Here's the girls' summary from the Wayne Invite:

Girls' 400m - Isabella Zahn (Coldwater) dropped a massive PB on the field with her 54.34 sec. win, moving to = #19 all-time and breaking the Ohio Division III record of 55.00 of Sydnee Sinn (Wayne Trace) at the 2023 state meet. The meet program information and announcer at the meet had the incorrect information when they announced the old D3 record as 55.23 by Brooke Turner in 2004.

Girls' 800m - Addy Abner (Germantown Valley View) won the 800m with a sterling finish in the fine time of 2:10.69, moving her into the top-50 all-time at #49.

Girls' 3200m - Brooke Chapman (Olentangy Orange) once again lowered her PB by about 4 seconds, winning in 10:28.94 to lead 3 other girls under 10:40, and 8 in total under 10:50. Champman moves up the list from #28 to #20 all-time.

Zahn has also run a 23.93 in the 200 this year (tops in D3) a 11.91 in the 100 (fastest in D3), long jumped 19'.5'' this season longest in Ohio regardless of division.

Very true. I just can't add her to my all-time lists in for those marks as none of those have a wind gauge reading, let alone a legal-wind gauge reading associated with those marks. I am keeping very close track (pun intended), of when she does lay down marks with wind gauge readings as I expect her to move onto those lists.

The Wayne 4x200 runners were the same as the 4x100 and in the same order.

A couple of positive thoughts:
1- the new track is fast
2- the exchange zones are a different color- awesome!
3- the meet was well run. Meet was over at 8:30 on Thursday and a little past 10:00 on Friday.
4- the weather played well with the runners. There was little wind and the storms stayed south all evening.

Negative thoughts-
The announcer was very annoying talking about the crowd staying back. It is very negative to the atmosphere. Which in my opinion led to a couple of skirmishes in the crowd. And eventually an all-out brawl- cops called and arrests made. I said it before and I will say it again-
stop announcing calls and for people to stay off the railings. Stop calling out kids in the stands. This was very annoying which led to unrest in the stadium. The tensions were high due to this atmosphere. Very unprofessional and classless. Having a security team with local police at major meets is a must with this many teams. Announcers should be positive and enhance the crowd of the meet. Parents/coaches and athletes are annoyed when announcers do not enhance the meet. Play fun music at a tolerable level to make the meet fun.

I agree with what is said here. However, I did see a "security team" and local PD there.

Completely agree with how annoying and repetitive the announcer was regarding warnings against kids standing against the rail at the bottom of the stands. However, if you don't have any ushers or security to move kids, QUIT harping on it!

Regarding music, I'm not personally a fan of it; however, if it is to be played, I would ask/require that it not be full of degrading lyrics!!!
