Having the memory of an old man you might excuse me, but I vaguely recall that in '84 one of the teams entered week 10 at 9-0 and finished at 9-1.The first year they played in week 10 was 1984. I don't remember anything about that game.
I think the following is correct:
They played in week 10 in 1990 and then from 1993-95. They played again in week 11 in 90 & 95 in the 1st round of the playoffs. Played in week 9 in 1960, 75, 87 & 88, 98 & 99, 2002-19 and scheduled for week 9 in 2020 but Covid changed things. They played in the last regular season game that year. Played in week 10 from 2021-23 and scheduled for week 10 this year.
They are enrolled at Chaney. Why they would want to do that is beyond me.Heard the hill twins from fitch were leaving... also heard they were possibly coming to ursuline for hoops?
Thanks for the update .Just got back from the 7v7. The Irish looked good. They played 3 timed periods to start then went to game like conditions to finish. Ferrell looked very good, hitting long touchdowns to Taylor and looking pretty poised on checkdowns and intermediate routes. I was also very impressed with Rudzik at QB as well. I believe Ursuline didn't have an incomplete pass until the third period. In the third period and the game situation there were a few times that Ferrell looked a little indecisive and pulled the ball down and ran but we all know that is in no way shape or form a bad thing. The receivers all looked good and like I said caught pretty much everything.
Defensively the Irish played well early and picked Girard off 4-5 times. Later in the scrimmage the Indians did hit a couple of passes when the freshman QB got a little more comfortable but only scored twice overall. Speaking of Girards QB, he is their best player by far, on both sides of the ball. Great athlete, hes going to be a good one.
Overall a lot of positives but there are always some things to work on. Next up will be the McKinley 7v7 tourney and big man challenge on July 14th. The Irish won it last year so it will be interesting to see how we do this year.
How does our fresh squad look? Any players that might get early looks at varsity?Just got back from the 7v7. The Irish looked good. I didn't pay a ton of attention to that side of the field(they were going at the same time) but when I did they were doing well. The 2 young QBs looked like young QBs at times. The receivers made some nice catches. There are a ton of freshman skill players and a couple may have a chance or two. I'm not sure if they are at the level of last years freshman yet but there seems to be some good speed there. How does our fresh squad look? Any players that might get early looks at varsity?
Girard is going to start coaches son week1 at QB? That’s crazyJust got back from the 7v7. The Irish looked good. They played 3 timed periods to start then went to game like conditions to finish. He should start though. He is head and shoulders better than the backup, its not even close. Physically he looks like a senior. He's probably 5' 10ish but really well muscled.Girard is going to start coaches son week1 at QB? That’s crazy
Has probably been working with Cochran for years, smart move you’ll have him for four years as a starterHe should start though. He is head and shoulders better than the backup, its not even close. Physically he looks like a senior. He's probably 5' 10ish but really well muscled.
Similar what they did with Waid. Smart move. He will take his lumps similar to Waid did but it paid off.Has probably been working with Cochran for years, smart move you’ll have him for four years as a starter
No offense, but nothing about 7 v. 7 replicates “game like conditions.”Just got back from the 7v7. The Irish looked good. They played 3 timed periods to start then went to ”game like conditions to finish.”
I think he was more referring to the play clock and other rules that typically don’t apply during a scrimmage. No offense, but nothing about 7 v. 7 replicates “game like conditions.”
How’s the OLine look? That’s what I’m concerned with because November football games are won with the big guys.
Game like conditions as in 4 plays and 10 yards for a first down as a opposed to just having 10-15 plays in a row.No offense, but nothing about 7 v. 7 replicates “game like conditions.”

Rhodes is going to be very good for Mooney at QB this season, they won’t take a step back at QB at allIt would be great to hear from Mooney folks regarding projections for 2024 Cardinal football. They have decided to leave Mineral Ridge and return "home" to Stambaugh. I know they lost O'Brien to graduation so that will be a big hole to fill. He had to be high on the list of talented athletes at CMHS on both the grid iron and the court. (Shaking hands after the Holy War '23 Coach Reardon congratulated the lad for his Mooney career, "I'm glad you're graduating!")
Other prospects?Rhodes is going to be very good for Mooney at QB this season, they won’t take a step back at QB at all
Who offered FerrellIt went well. WR Taylor picked up offers from Indiana and Toledo. The Irish had 5 kids make the top 5 at their positions at the Notre Dame camp. Ferrell has looked really good at QB and picked up his first D1 offer last week. The freshman QB looks good as well.

No more major scheduling issues but travelling all over the state. Will the SVC continue with scheduling East & Chaney? That would leave only one slot to fill on the schedule for Ursuline & Mooney.
Chaney and East announcement a couple of weeks ago that they were leaving the SVC. Im not sure if they will continue to schedule us or Mooney. I'm guessing East wont but Chaney might continue to do so.No more major scheduling issues but travelling all over the state. Will the SVC continue with scheduling East & Chaney? As long as Fitch stays on the schedule. This conference is overall good news, but will sting to lose local games.Chaney and East announcement a couple of weeks ago that they were leaving the SVC. I'm sure that Mooney & Boardman will try to continue their series although it has lost its punch in recent years with the Spartans struggling and Mooney's lower enrollment. That was a hot, hot rivalry almost akin to Mooney-Ursuline. I recall the 1st game in '68 won by Boardman at home.As long as Fitch stays on the schedule. That series will last as long as Mooney is down. If Mooney shows any semblance of turning it around Boardman will run away and quit.I'm sure that Mooney & Boardman will try to continue their series although it has lost its punch in recent years with the Spartans struggling and Mooney's lower enrollment. The Columbus schools may grow weary travelling to NE Ohio and vice versa. The new league would stand a better chance with NDCL, Lake Catholic, & Padua instead. The Columbus three are much closer in miles to Dayton CJ, Kettering Alter, Dayton Carroll, & Hamilton Badin. But given that so many public schools refuse to play the parochials, they do the best they can. I hope it works but frosh & JV team travel will add a burden. Although only a football conference, remember that travel added greatly to Fitch & Boardman pulling out of the Canton based league. And Canton is a hop skip and a jump closer than Columbus. Still anyway you look at it Ursuline, Mooney, SVSM, and VASJ have to travel to fill a slate anyway. This has been an issue for Watterson, DeSales & Hartley as well.
Another factor will be rivalry incentives (bragging rights) for both players and fans. My understanding is that Boardman & Fitch games vs. Glen Oak, Perry, Jackson etc. played to sparse stadiums (according to friends at both schools). I'm not 100% on that and much rides on how individual schools are faring. But it is hard to envision Youngstown kids getting too excited because one of the Columbus schools is coming to town.If the Federal League would've added Harding & Massillon as proposed, they could've split it into two tiers. It'd might still be around to this day.
Financially speaking, being that neither Ursuline or Mooney have their own stadiums, would it be a big deal making one/two long road trips (Columbus) per year vs. renting out Stambaugh for home games?
