TVHS Football Mid-Season Review 9/25

As the week 5 halfway point approaches, the Teays Valley Vikings hold a promising 4-1 record overall, and after two OCC Buckeye games, they hold a 2-0 division record, showing their resilience and physicality.

The season began with a tough 42-7 loss to Grove City, despite Spike Woods' standout performance (146 rushing yards, 1 TD) and quarterback Brady Farmer's 10/20 for 69 yards.

Undeterred, the Vikings secured their first win in Carroll since 2018, defeating Bloom-Carroll 28-10 in Week 2. Woods rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown, while Farmer threw for 98 yards and Tyler Mathews sealed the victory with a pick-six.

In Week 3, Teays Valley dominated Watkins Memorial 35-12, with Woods rushing for 174 yards and a touchdown and Farmer throwing three touchdowns. Cavin McDowell caught four passes for 20 yards and a score.

However, this victory came at a cost, as Woods' junior season was cut short due to injury. Carson Payne stepped up, excelling at running back.

Payne's impressive performance in Week 4's 35-28 win over Lancaster included 91 rushing yards, two touchdowns, and an interception return for a touchdown. Farmer threw for 126 yards and a touchdown.

The Vikings' defense shone in Week 5, shutting down Reynoldsburg 17-7. Farmer threw two touchdown passes, Peter Graham caught one and recovered a fumble, and Westin Gray's interception secured the victory.

Key players Woods, Farmer, Payne, and McDowell have driven the team's success.
