Pittsburgh Penguins v/s Detroit Red Wings

I'll post it here first but if it doesn't get any action I'm posting it on the General forum...

Series starts on Saturday. It should be better than last year IMO, Pittsburgh is better and Detroit is just as good as last year. I expect it to go 7 games

I think Detroit will win it again though.

I leave for Canada Sunday and I'll be able to watch the whole series up there, the Finals are even cooler in Canada because the Canadians are so passionate about it.

Predictions????

Man, I am surrounded by Penguins fans.......which I have a lot in common with most of them as I am a Steelers fans, but I have always and always will be a REDWINGS fan and hopefully they will repeat.

I think Detroit should be able to slow down Marken and Crosby....but how healthy will the Wings be on Saturday...they were down to roughly 4 defensemen in game 5 with Chicago....I was hoping for more of a layoff before the Stanley Cup gets started!!!

GO WINGS!

Defense for Detroit will be the key to this series IMO, so the health of Detroit's defensemen could play a huge role. Detroit will need to play physical and slow dow Malkin & Crosby. Pittsburg's best offense seems to be the give & go. If the defensemen get caught up in chasing the puck and ignore the weak side of the ice, I think Pittsburg has a chance. Otherwise I think the Wings are the overall stronger team.

I think another interesting aspect of the series is whether or not the Penguins put a target on Hossa in this series. If they get caught up in retribution, they lose in 4.

Zetterberg shuts down Crosby and the Wings take advantage of the home court boards to win 3-1 in game 1. I felt that Fleury was unstable in goal and gave up some bunnies......Osgood played well after giving up a cheapy himself....Right back at it tonight!

Go WINGS!

Detroit takes game two by the same score 3-1. Osgood unbelievable in goal again while Fleury looks shaky at times. Malkin gets saved by the officials before Zetterberg could start whaling on him!!!!!

Must win for Pittsburgh in game 3, all the pressure now on the PENS.

I finally got to watch part of the game. Detroit is looking tough on D, taking away the give & go. I think Malkin & Crosby are getting frustrated and if the Penguins fall behind at home they'll crack like they started to do at the end of tonight's game.

I am in a bad position again because I am a huge fan of both teams. I would love to see the Pens win it this year because the Wings won last year, but I would also like to see Hossa get screwed. However, the Pittsburgh defensemen are just not cutting it. They are getting beat deep and cannot keep up. Detroit is getting way too much down low. I expect Pittsburgh to do better at home because they get the final line change.

There is one thing I will say about game 2. On two of the Detroit goals, they should have been called for interference. No doubt in my mind. It looks like the refs are letting them play. But sometimes you have to make the call.

And yes, Fleury does look shaky at times, especially that Abdelkader (sp?) goal. But the defensemen looked shaky on that one as well.

Thought game two really coulda gone either way. A lot of very close no goals for pitt. I felt like each team had a few minutes where they were in control, but overal I believe the Redwings are just too good. I would not be surprised to see Pitt win the next two at home though. In the end, the Wings will win it again

Pittsburgh scores a third period power play goal and later an open netter to gain a 4-2 win over Detroit to cut the series to 2 games to 1.

Game 4 is Thursday night in Pittsburgh.

Good news for the NHL is that although the officiating has been terrible in this series, barely anyone in the United States has had a chance to witness it!

Well, if the Pens wanted to steal one in Detroit, now is the time to do it. What a great series this has been. Makes me enjoy watching my two favorite teams battling it out, instead of cringing. Either team that wins will have earned the Cup this year. Good luck to both. However, I would really love to see Marian Hossa get screwed!

I wouldn't mind the Pens winning for this reason, it'd be hilarious to see him have the same look on his face as he did last year after losing :)
