Teays Valley head softball coach Derrick Hastler had this to say about their trip to Southwest Ohio during spring break.

"Our 4-game trip was a great experience for the team, facing tough opponents like Centerville, Mount Notre Dame, Mason, and Anthony Wayne. Against Centerville, Alyvia's command and resilience in the circle was outstanding, and as a team, to bounce back after going down 3-0 in our first game was a big positive. We carried that momentum into the Mount Notre Dame game, where we did a good job of base running and making adjustments at the plate, and Avery and Sydney's combined performance in the circle was impressive.

Against Anthony Wayne, the girls did a great job understanding the challenge that comes with facing great pitching and that it's important to go one pitch at a time. We chased a D1 pitching commit, only to face a second D1 pitching commit, and while we made some mistakes, we kept ourselves in it with a chance to win. I'm proud of their scrappy approach and competitiveness.

The Mason game was a great test on defense, and we had to adjust some things within the game, which isn't always ideal, but the girls did a good job making changes on defense and at the plate, and they never showed any quit, which is a great sign moving forward.

Overall, we accomplished a lot on this trip. The girls got to spend a lot of time together, bonding over activities like zip lining, a night hike, and a low ropes obstacle course. We went out of our comfort zones, faced some fears, and learned about our value even in a vast universe. The level of softball we played this week was pretty high, especially considering we were out of our routine and away from home for four days. That can be tough, but bonds were strengthened, and we hope that will pay dividends over time."
