Great point, will the white Union soldiers that fought to free slaves get free money also?

And since anyone can identify how they feel nowadays, going forward I identify as a 75 year old black woman living in Evanston, Illinois and I demand reparations and that I receive full social security benefits immediately!!!

Before I change my identity, I demand reparations for the massive amount of tax dollars wasted on government run schools also.

I'll let you know if I have any further demands going forward to reflect any more made up victimhoods I may have endured.
 
I don’t suppose you guys know how stupid and racist you sound, but I’m going to try anyway. Let’s say the government illegally arrested your grandfather and imprisoned him until his death. In the meantime without him to work his farm his wife and children went bankrupt, lost the farm, and lived in poverty for years. Let’s also say that now you have proof that your grandfather was innocent. Would you feel that the government financially owed your family? Would you sue for damages? Reparations seem to be the same kind of thing to me. Certainly not something that shouldn’t at least be given some thought. That said I don’t support reparations because it would seem impossible to prove who’s family had been wronged. My biggest issue would be how much money would it take to financially make up for the criminal injustice of slavery. Should a person get a million, ten million? How do you put a price on lives stolen and destroyed by slavery. Seems almost impossible to me. I would support maybe a small symbolic amount of money for every black person America, with an apology from our country signed by every government official we have. A sincere attempt to own up to one of the most egregious crimes in human history.

what happens to the people who actually sold the slaves , to get this all started?

do we owe Indians whose land was taken from them?

do indians whose land was taken from them by other indians, do those Indians deserve some money from the other Indians?

does 10 year old johnny Smith who took my bike when i was 8 years old , and i had to quit my paper route , because i lost my transportation, so i lost the $20 i made each month... does he owe me too?

The current government doesn’t owe any “former” slaves anything because there are no former slaves alive.

You live in the wealthiest country in the world, and a big part of that wealth was built on slavery. And, you are a beneficiary of that. It was institutional slavery. Supported by the government. You think Blacks have had the same opportunities as Whites? Your ignorance is baffling, but typical for this site.
