TEXAS The Running Back Capital

I believe Texas unquestionably is the running back capital - This is off the top of my head let me know who I am leaving out; I know there are more.

Texas RB's

Earl Campbell
Eric Dickerson
Craig James
Preist Holmes

NFL's current two best RB's

Ladanian Tomlinson
Adrian Peterson

AD is shocking me

I remember watching him play against Hallesville one year. I did not think he would run for over 1000 yards in the NFL.

unquestionably???

hmmm based on what?

2006 Ladanian Tomlinson and 2007 (1/2 season) Adrian Peterson?

how about Marcus Allen, OJ Simpson, Reggie Bush, Terrell Davis

and a host of others from california

those are 3 Heisman Trophy Winners 2 Super Bowl MVPs and we are not even mentioning anyone from greater Los Angeles

And that is only half way through his rookie season while splitting carries for most of it.

LT was the best RB in the NFL now AD has taken over.

Reggie Who???
What's he done in the NFL??

I'll give you Marcus - OJ and Terrell Davis.

It's too early to say this, but if he can stay healthy Adrian Peterson may be one of the most productive running bakcs in the NFL past, present, and future.

what did craig james do in the nfl?

I don;t know - did he actually do anything?

I added Craig James just because he is white. IMO he is top 2 of White RB's him and John Riggins.

In the 1985–86 season, James rushed for 1,227 yards, becoming the last white player to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season.

Ken Hall - National HS Rushing Record Holder (11,232 yds)
Byron Hanspard - Doak Walker Winner/Texas Tech's All-Time Leading Rusher

this goes way back but hugh McCelaney (Sp) was incredible

I know Pied is going to hate me bringing this up, but weren't Joe Washington and Greg Pruitt from Texas?

They were pretty good in the NFL, but they were monsters at Oklahoma.

There have been some good ones from texas, no doubt. But, the idea of this thread perfectly illustrates how Texans greatly exaggerate the truth. With 32 teams, in the NFL, let's look at the top 32 rushers in the league as we speak:

Texas has produced three of those. Not bad at all.
California has produced five.
Florida has produced seven.

Where out of that you get that Texas dominates, I don't know.

LT and AP are probably the two best in the league. The history of RBs in Texas is very good as well. But, when we start saying Texas is the "capital" and the "unquestioned" top state etc, we're going too far.

Why look at the top 32? No one is talking about 30 of them because by NFL standards, they are average Joes. I prefer to look at the current top two in the league as everyone else is.
Also, From A historical perspective, I believe TX to be the best at the RB position.

Cali RB

Marcus Allen Heisman winner/Pro HOF
O.J. Simpson Heisman winner/Pro HOF
Frank Gifford Pro HOF
Charles White Heisman winner
Ricky Williams Heisman winner
Reggie Bush Heisman winner
Anthony Davis 2nd in Heisman voting to Archie Griffin College HOF

I could go on. Texas is not the place for HB's. Florida and Cali put out at least the same amount of HB's as what Texas puts out.

ALL of your statements are self-serving

I will be more specific then

To say let's just look at the top 2 backs is very self-serving because after ladanian and petersen there is a huge dropoff in Texas talent. Saying let's just consider the top 2 is the epitome of self- serving

I don't think everone agrees that Texas is the ultimate state for running backs. To imply that is very self-serving

I don't think everyone looks at the top 2 running acid from a state and then thumps their chest. That is not a true statement and again very self serving

He doesn't speak for everyone and there is notmuch else in his post

I stand by my assessment

I'm not disputing your assessment nor agreeing with it. I depends on what criteria a person would like to use.

I'm AM saying that you should be the last person to accuse another poster of being self-serving. You've posted more than your share of self-serving posts. I'd put myself in the same category.

I am not aware of trying to speak for the masses

he said everyone would agree or everyone thinks then made his sekf serving statement

I may make many self-serving statements but I doubt I start them with "everyone agree" or "everyone thinks"

maybe I do

but I doubt it

After the first 2 backs, there is a huge drop off to the other 30 that is why everyone focuses on the top 2 which of course happen to be from Texas.

Of course my post is self serving. When I get a chance to illustrate some TX greatness, I'll do it - As we all do.

It is not meant to be spiteful or anything. Its not like I do not realize that there are also great players from Ohio - Cali and Florida.
100% communist (everyone equal) and non biased crap gets old and boring.

Cali RB

Marcus Allen Heisman winner/Pro HOF
O.J. Simpson Heisman winner/Pro HOF
Frank Gifford Pro HOF
Charles White Heisman winner
Ricky Williams Heisman winner
Reggie Bush Heisman winner
Anthony Davis 2nd in Heisman voting to Archie Griffin College HOF

Gimme...

Earl Campbell over Marcus Allen
Eric Dickerson over O.J. Simpson
Billy Sims over Frank Gifford
Thurman Thomas over Charles White
LaDainian Tomlinson over Reggie Bush
Adrian Peterson over Ricky Williams
Priest Holmes over Anthony Davis

... I could go on, as well. Texas is, very much, the place for RB's. Not saying it is the "Capital", but we are pretty freakin' stout.

I'd add Terrell Davis also.

All your picks are homer picks. Must be Texas Frog.
