Sycamore 49 - Mason 25

Mason's big girl and best player only had 10 points and 4 rebounds.
It appears Kliest from the Aves had an equivalent game.
That didn't help Mason.
After that, Pavlech and Newboldt are better than any two on Mason.

Here are some factors

1. The Lady Aves started 4 seniors while Mason only has one senior (Bri
Glover) that played until the last two minutes of the game. Pavlech set the
tone early when she scored the first seven points. That's what a blue chip senior guard can do.

2. This was a tough opener for the Comets. Sycamore had already played a
game.

3. Outlaw is nice addition. The Aves were quicker than Mason

4. Mason's size advantage was negated by the already mentioned turnovers.
Replacing Sarah Hunter as the main ball handler will take some time.

Coach Matula's teams have started slowly in the past. Look for the usual steady improvement as the long season grinds on.

We will know more when Sycamore plays Princeton this Saturday. The Lady Aves are very good.

Congrats to the Lady Aves but there is a ton of talent in the GMC. Princeton, Colerain, Lakota's, even FF is darn good and Mason should not take a back seat to anyone.
They will be there in the end.
Someday my beloved FAVC (soon to be ECC) will be as competitive

Good Luck to all and lets see who is last lady standing!

As Cometcenter alluded to, when you lose a D-1 PG, it's hard to run an offense.
Without Hunter, Mason seems to be struggling with TOs.
They had 23 TOs to 9 for Sycamore.

They also only took 30 shots to 45 for Sycamore and the teams were equal rebounding.
TOs explain that.
IF they get their TO/PG problem under control, Glover will produce and they will be competitive with the top teams.

With that being the case you would think that Glover would step up and take control of the game. The Mason guards appear to be tenative so Glover has to step up and take control if Mason is to get over the hump

I think it is early and you saw a already experienced, gelled team with a lot of talent beat a team that has less experience, not gelled but still talented. Don't count Mason out but also give credit. Sycamore may be the best in the GMC and definitely deserve as much talk as Princeton or Lakota East who are ranked #1 and #2.

Also, Colerain tough. Fairfield with Raeshaun. Hamilton even seems better. GMC is tough! I hope my Lakota East Lady Hawks can weather that schedule but it will definitely be good preparation for the playoffs :) We have to show these GWOC people what's up haha
