Suburban League

Green Looking Good

Green is 3-0 in Suburban League with wins over Copley, Highland and Talmadge. Wadsworth is next up tonight. Go Lady Bulldogs!

Green beat Wadsworth tonight in two games. The scores were 15-12 and 15-8 I believe. Green is definately the class of the Suburban this year.

who does the team have besides emily jones, i know dressler graduated.

She is most of there offense, but they also have a couple pretty good defensive specialists and an above average setter.

Any thoughts on why Wadsworth can't seem to put together a strong Volleyball program? They appear to have great atheletes and dominate in other sports. However, they never even get close to a Suburban league championship??

How can you say that Wadsworth isn't a strong program right now? they're starting freshmen and beating everyone but Green aren't they? Did I miss something?

Wadsworth beat Revere 15-7, 15-4 on Thursday.

By the Way, Green has one loss, they lost to Cloverleaf on Thursday in 2. 15-13 and 15-4.

Wadsworth is starting one freshman every game, Middle Hitter Aimee Reynolds. They also start a second freshman, Marie Mueller, on alternate games as an outside hitter. Additionally they have 2 sophs and four Juniors on Varsity, so they are young. They do not traditionally do well because of the lack of youth programs and coaching at the younger levels to teach fundamentals. They just do not develop players at any level as V-Ball is considered a second tier sport to basketball and the athletes stay in that program year round intead of playing any offseason v-ball. Also, the H.S Coaching Staff just is not particularly strong. With the depth of thier Sophomore and especially the Freshman class, they WILL challenge for the title n the next three years, inspite of these shortcomings.

How does Green lose a game to cloverleaf like that? :dang: I guess it's the growing pains in becoming a truely winning program. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised that they dropped one. Hopefully they 'right the ship' and get back on track.

Yahtzee, if there really aren't the youth programs in wadsworth (surprising considering the youth level stuff in other sports) then thta is a huge factor.

Green lost a disappointing game to CLoverleaf and couldn't seem to right themselves. The weren't playing as well as they had in the past. Props to CLoverleaf for having an agressive team. They're much improved from last year. Green came back on Saturday to take 2nd in the Avon Lake Fall Classic, losing to Keystone in 3. Green was listed as #9 in the Thusday's PD top 10!

The only youth programs for v-ball are CYO in 5 and 6th grades. That limits the number of kids who participate to those who are members of Sacred Heart parish. In fact, the very strong freshman class is primarily Kids from that program. I beleive 10 of the 12 v-ball players and 8 of 10 basketball players are, including the freshman who starts Varsity and the two who start JV. By contrast, the basketball program starts in the city in third grade and is for everyone. Kids are pushed into basketball and it is very well supported by the city and community. V-ball is just not on the same level in the communities eyes. Also, the strong programs like Stow drive the young kids into J.O. programs that they run out of thier schools, whereas our kids have to search these programs out on thier own. That is where I fault the High School coaches. If they wan't to have a stronger program they MUST be more visible in the younger grades and bring a J.O. program to the community. They just have not seemed that interested in doing so, but that is changing as I know they are in discussions with a club right now. It will take time, but with the athletes this school has and the community support that they give, I am confident better days are ahead.

Also ACSports, do not be that dissappointed about the loss to clover leaf, they are much improved and very well coached. In fact, they are probably the second best defensive team I have seen this year, they just lack the overall depth in athletes to sustain a strong offensive production game to game.

Congrats to Tallmadge as they defeated Green tonight in a tough three gamer....12-15, 15-13, 15-13. Green was up 13-10 in the last game and lost.... this makes the SL that much more exciting as the season enters the 'home stretch'

With a win at Cloverleaf last night, Wadsworth is now 8 - 9 and out of contention for the SL. I've been told that the JV team is undefeated and the freshman have only lost one game. Optimism for the future??

As I have stated many times before, the Freshman class at Wadsworth is awesome athletically, especially basketball and volleyball. However, the program leaves alot to be desired. They are not well coached at any level for the most part and especially at the Varsity level. If that changes there will be alot to be optimistic about, if it doesn't they will have to out talent everyone they play and that will only carry you so far. They will contend in the Suburban over the next few years and should win it at least one of them, but it also would not surprise me if they do not win at all do to the coaching situation.

Congrats to Copley on winning the league... Green crash and burn late and tallmadge steps it up after the coach got canned.. errr left. Congrats to Copley on winning through what seems like a very even fun year in the SL

Green did not crash and burn, they finished tied for second place in the league with Talmadge. Each had 3 losses. Congrats Green, great season after loosing 7 seniors last year to graduation, you out-performed most people's expectations (except your own) with your young team. Look-out next season!

This past weekend Green took the #1 Barberton District seed McKinley (at the Green Tourney) to 3 games and eventually lost the match 13-15, 16-14, 15-17. It was one of the most exciting matches I have watched. Good luck in sectionals. Hope you get that rematch against McKinley.

Sorry for the over-exaggeration.... they were playing well and then lost at least one game that they shouldn't have and probably should have won the copley one.
