STX--Any respect yet??

nobody fell for your whine the first time

a 15 point win vs Colerain, a national top ten team is impressive

a 3 point 3 overtime win against an unranked also-ran is not

try again

you may see the difference one day

How about the wins vs dematha, Glenville, Trinity, and Chatard:shrug:

Can you name any other school that has played (let alone beaten) 3 defending state champs?

Well, considering that their average ranking is #2 in the USA, I'd say they're doing okay in the "respect" department.....

Most of the preseason talk about X went something like "IF they run the table with this schedule, they deserve consideration for #1." The table has not quite been run yet. If in 2 weeks it has, then we can have this conversation, IMO.

Respect?

If you continue to win, the respect will come. Where are you not getting respect? I always hear about Cincinnati St. Xavier.

The Bombers are consistently considered for the Super 25 in USA Today and currently #1 in the city and state.

RESPECT IS EARNED. Add to the one state title in the trophy case and build on the success you are enjoying.

Ditto. You want respect, go out and get the job done. Then they will respect you.

I don't know that anyone does not respect St. X, consumerman exlcuded.

I think most felt they had the toughest schedule in the land, and would probably run the table.

I am not a big rankings guy, but if I were I don't think that would be the only criteria to rank them #1. I think there might be several other teams to do so as well, and perhaps in more convincing fashion. I include MNW/DLS in that group.

Is beating Colerain/DeMatha in Cinci more impressive than beating SLC in Dallas?

no

SLC has lost one game in the last 4 seasons

to MNW

St X beat a De Matha team that lost again
St X beat Colerain that (last year) did not make it one game after beating ST X in the region final

St.X has a legit claim to the Mythical National Championship based on the nations toughest schedule provided they win however the game of the year this year was played in Texas.

The MNW Bulls beating SLC in Dallas was by far the most important game of the year. The 'ragons had every advantage including a long winning streak in Texas, playing at home and bringing back their big three stars from a USAToday #1 team and they got punched right in the nose by a team from the hood in which many of the players had never been on an airplane or out of the state of Florida.

SLC thought their superior discipline would beat a more physically talented team especially IN TEXAS. They were dead wrong.

In ten years no one will care that the game was played in week 2 or whatever. Only that it took place and those boys from Florida showed allot of heart and class and went home with a win and a piece of the Texas mystique.

108-42 St. X's opponents combined record

13 losses coming to St. Xavier
3 teams are 3-3 within the record

105-29 against the world

Batting .783. That pretty much sums up my argument...

Oh I forgot, undefeated with that schedule.

Who are you arguing with and what are you arguing with them about?

seriously, the schedule stuff is getting extremely old. You played a tough schedule, however you were Favored to win all of the games to date. You have been beating teams that you are supposed to beat! I personally believe that the toughest schedule in the nation belongs to a team that isn't favored to win any of their games.

And St.X is getting more attention than any other team. There always seems to be an article or picture of St. X on all the major high school football sites front pages.

Not arguing anyone, just my argument for why X should be higher than they are.

But having said that, I take way too much pride in these polls. After Colerain dropped as much as they did as well as other weird and unexplained rankings...I've started to lose stock in these.

It may be old and it may seem unreasonable for you, but its still valid.

There is a difference from a team that has X's schedule and that goes 0-10. X did it and is still undefeated. That takes balls to schedule like that and skill to back it up.

It is not valid, nor is it unreasonable. It's an opinion.

X probably has the toughest teams on their schedule, no doubt. Does that make it the toughest schedule? No, not when your team is #2 in the nation and favored to win all of their games.

Look at it this way. Would you rather be St. X's coach getting ready to play Dematha; or would you rather be fairfield's coach getting ready to play Colerain?

I would definitely rather be St. X's coach. Teams that have a 10 game schedule in which they have no chance of winning any games is a much tougher schedule IMO.

I do agree that St. X probably has the best teams on their schedule. It's just stupid and annoying to use that as an argument as to why St. X should suddenly leapfrog teams so they can become mythical national Champions.

X is at number 2 in the nation. be happy with that. 04 Colerain only made it to #4  these polls are a joke.

I think you'd be served well to accept your last point. Ranking terams Nationally with such little interplay is dicey at best. No one will ever reach concensus.

That being said, being ranked #2 in most polls and only #5 in one is pretty dang good.

Essentially you appear to be upset at either the USA Today poll or the fact that they are ranked behind MNW. If it were my team I would dismiss and point out the wisdom of all the other pollsters.

If it is about MNW, that is what the off season is for. Enjoy the presumed title run, only the 2nd in history if I'm not mistaken and then sharpen up your argument for the off season.

Us old timers would advise that championships don't come around as often as you think(unless you are in CA) and it is wise to enjoy them.

There is a difference between "tougher/toughest" and "more difficult". A bad team may have a mediocre schedule of opponents and go 0-10. Does that make the schedule "tough"? Only by their standards. It is simply difficult for them.

X has been favored in all their games, yes. However, compared to the schedules of other elite programs around the nation, who has had the highest risk of getting a loss due to a letdown or injury? X, that's who.

As to their ranking, it appears clear at this point that X or MNW are the leaders. Both have great arguments.

I agree, assuming both win out we'll have some good conversations. May be more interesting if DLS continues to dominate and what if Katy rolls.

Could be fun.

Good point.

I think DLS is hampered by their schedule. They simply will not have any real high visibility wins to point to. Too bad, as they really seem to be cooking on gas.

Katy is potentially another story. I think most folks look at Texas 5A as being a bit down this year overall. But Katy has SLC in their tourney, right? If Katy can run the table and beat DLS handily in a head-to-head, then they might stake a claim. However, if that happens, a highly probable outcome would be X moving to #1 overall (assuming they win out strongly), and Katy and MNW arguing for #2. Go Katy! They can weaken MNW's prime argument for the top spot.....

Or further cement their own for being #1. I think we are getting ahead of ourselves though.

Texas 5A to me has the feeling of the NCAA for some reason, although Permian is making themselves relevant again, which is good in my opinion.

How are Brockton/Valdosta doing?

Is Katy in 5A D1 or D2? I think it would be a good game between SLC and Katy later on in the tournament. I saw Katy when they played A&M consolidated...and i'm not sure if it was consolidated that was making them look good, but they played well.
