Strongsville hires Jason Trusnik, who spent time with Browns, as next football coach
A Nordonia graduate with 10 years of NFL playing experience, Jason Trusnik has been in Strongsville at the youth and middle school levels since 2017.
I know nothing about the guy, except that he played in the NFL. It may end up as a home run hire, but hiring someone who has never coached hire than youth football is a risk.HOMERUN hire
No. Still on leave. Is Cirino back on the job as a teacher?
So much for paying your dues as an assistant coach.I know nothing about the guy, except that he played in the NFL. It may end up as a home run hire, but hiring someone who has never coached hire than youth football is a risk.
My understanding is that he coached for the middle school, so he at least has been involved in a school setting and dealt with the issues that coaching for a public school district entails. That would be me only concern is his ability to deal with parents and administrators, but he at least has experienced that. As far as football knowledge, the guy played in the league for 10 years. I wouldn't be too worried about his Xs and Os knowledge. So much for paying your dues as an assistant coach.
Interesting your takeaway from the article is a pee-wee coach. I find the 4 years of college football playing experience and 10 years in the NFL has more relevant to this guy's experience. I like to crap on peewee coaches that try to take over as much as the next guy, but this seems like a much different case. Fyi, I hated ice-box and rooted for Polk High legend Al Bundy in the Little Giants Movie.HAHAHAHA....this is a funny hire. A pee wee coach taking over a d-1 Football program. Oh brother......what ever happened to the good ole days of Russ Jaques and playoff wins and conference championships? What plays are the team going to run. The Little Giants movie Annexation of Puerto Rico. Clownshow at a former real d-1 team. I am sure the Mustang faithful are excited...not. Dumpster fire. enough said. School system that is struggling in all facets
Just ask yourself, would this guy even get an interview at Mentor or Lakewood St. Eds. That is your region competition.Interesting your takeaway from the article is a pee-wee coach. Ice box was a quitter and a fraud. The cowboys would have killed them in a real game. Loved the bubble wrap the mom put the one kid in. Seems like this is the culture today. No real hitting desired anymore. Especially in NFL flag league now. Pro bowl flag game not much different than what I saw this whole year in the National Fixed league. .Interesting your takeaway from the article is a pee-wee coach. Yeah, the DIII college player had elite talent that propelled him through his NFL career. This is a guy that played at Ohio Northern. I doubt it was his elite measurable talent that got him there. Strongsville is not Mentor or St. Eds. They'll have a much different pool of candidates to pull from.NFL players rarely make great coaches because they had elite talent compared to the other players and did not need great technique to compete. You can put as much lipstick on this pig but its still a pig. Playing ball and coaching are two different things so his NFL and College playing days are nice but irrelevant to actually coaching a D-1 high school team that clearly is at a talent disadvantage with their current schedule. Hey at least the player will have orange slices and juice box ready for them after the game.
Dude may be great and work out but he was not qualified for a head coaching job at a d-1 program is all I am saying and most on this site would agree. Says more about the current state of the Mustang program than the dude.Yeah, the DIII college player had elite talent that propelled him through his NFL career. No disagreement there.Says more about the current state of the Mustang program than the dude.
I'd say it says more about the applicant pool of coaches around the state too. I know its becoming harder and harder for head coaches to fill out a staff, let alone a school district to hire a new HC. Schools have to look to hire based on their potential openings to be able to hire them in the building. Sometimes they may not even have teaching opening so a lay coach like this situation is the best fit.Says more about the current state of the Mustang program than the dude.
He played four years of college ball, was in the NFL for ten years, where he clearly learned schemes and game planning, he runs a very success personal training facility and coached in the district. He is more than qualified, NFL guys get HC jobs right out the league, Teddy Bridgewater this year, highly doubt anyone is questioning that hire.Dude may be great and work out but he was not qualified for a head coaching job at a d-1 program is all I am saying and most on this site would agree. NFL guys getting a head coaching job without ever coaching before means the high school program is trash most often. As I said before, Would he have gotten a interview at any solid d-1 high school with nothing but pee wee coach experience or middle school ball. I am sure St. Eds would be rushing to bring him in if it was open. Some common sense please. He played four years of college ball, was in the NFL for ten years, where he clearly learned schemes and game planning, he runs a very success personal training facility and coached in the district. Well there’s a reason jobs are open in the first place, clearly Strongsville is down. Coach Trusnik represents everything you’d want in a HC . EC just hired Chase Farris last year and he had zero experience and that’s a great program. Clearly you have negative thoughts on Strongsville, maybe stop being a troll and let the guy have a chance.NFL guys getting a head coaching job without ever coaching before means the high school program is trash most often. I am troll for saying the obvious...sure. You are either are related to Trusnik or on staff with him. I am not a Strongsville hater....I remember the great teams of their past and Coach Jaques being one of best teams in area. Just saying obvious on how far they have fallen from the good ole days that a pee wee or middle school coach is their selection.Well there’s a reason jobs are open in the first place, clearly Strongsville is down. EC is not a large d-1 school. They need to recruit and nfl background can help.Well there’s a reason jobs are open in the first place, clearly Strongsville is down. EC was horrible last year, especially coaching, and will be this year.EC was absolutely terrible this season. Forget their record, those coaches, under the “leadership” of Chase Farris were classless, cocky and arrogant losers. The WSC or whatever it’s called had to deal with multiple incidents regarding those guys. Plus, they missed the D4 playoffs to add insult.
No comparison. Bad example. Next caller.
I would liken it more to being a world class chef at a bunch of high end restaurants, and then trying to open a restaurant on your own. You have the skills and understand the cooking aspect, but there will be a managerial and operation aspect that is new.Its like me thinking I can be a dentist because I had my teeth drilled before when I went to the dentist. Does that make me qualified to be a dentist.
Same thing with coaching a d-1 program in Ohio. How come St. Ignatius did not hire Trusnik when Chico retired if he is such a great candidate? Come on. Pee wee and middle school experience would not make him qualified to be a DC or OC at a real d1 school let alone head coach.
Coaching and playing are two completely different skill sets. It helps alot to have played the game as you should know more technical aspects of the game but it is still a different skill set. He may be best coach in HS history for all I know, he JUST WAS NOT QUALIFIED for the job. People would laugh if he was interviewed for the ST. Iggy job and they are wayyyyy down too right now. Dont know if their current coach will be around much longer with 2 wins a year.I would liken it more to being a world class chef at a bunch of high end restaurants, and then trying to open a restaurant on your own. Iggy is not Strongsville and... not to say you are wrong on this, but my thought goes back to, is this the best option they had based on availability of teaching jobs for other candidates, etc. Did anyone get offered before him and turn it down? These are things that make this dynamic a little different if they played a role in it.Coaching and playing are two completely different skill sets.
