Just a dumb question: How does a stadium built in 1999 earn the title " Historic"? Am I then allowed to call my socks, purchased in 1997, " Historic Crew Socks"?

It's not "historic", as in an adjective. It's official name is "Historic Crew Stadium", to differentiate from Lower.com Field, where the Crew plays now.

Feel free to call your socks whatever you wish.

It was also the first soccer-specific stadium in America, unless you count the 2,400 grandstand built for the Bethlehem steel in 1913 to be a “stadium.” So it’s historic in that sense.
