Southwest Ohio Predictions

I haven’t gotten out to watch many games this year. The forum tends to focus more on D1 (which I love) in this area but I’d love to hear what people think and who are the top teams in each division and who might come out of the region. I hear Mariemont and 7 Hills both look strong in D3.

I have only been to 1 game and Madeira looked very good against Milford…although they did lose to 7 Hills…from the results so far Mariemont looks strong…CCD still appears to be down per their results

In D1, Turpin looks to be quite solid this year. St. X has a couple good wins, as does Moeller, but neither have played strong competition. Both play in tournament events this weekend, which should reveal a lot. Milford has talent, but is still finding its rhythm. Traditional powers Mason and Centerville look to be a bit down this year, but the season is still young. My early money is on Moeller as they have an incredibly strong back line and GK, a dynamic attacking midfielder and can get scoring from countless talented players. If they stay healthy, they look to be the best in SE Ohio.

Centerville should have beaten West 6-2. Three goals called back on tight offside. The game wasn't as close as the tie score suggests. I think they'll be fine.

It is early in the season but we will know more about Moeller in the next ten days. After 2 big wins in Indiana this weekend they go to Mason on Tuesday then at St X next Tuesday. Moeller defense has been very good so far , their back line and goalkeeper are excellent. When they are at their best pressuring the ball they are hard to beat. It is tough in this game when one mistake can cost you a goal and the game. That being said I like at this point I like Moellers' chance of another great season and deep tourney run.

Moeller wins at Mason 1-0 on a late second half goal. Moe offense continues to sputter a bit but defense was strong as usual.

This was a tense defensive battle and a great game! Both teams created chances that forced defenses to make some important blocks. Mason had moments of great play. Moe did too. Both of these teams are going to be hard match ups in the tournament.

I saw this game and didn’t think it was particularly close, other than the 1-0 score line. Moeller probably had 60% of the possession and spent a third of the time in the attacking third. Mason had maybe 3-4 shots all night and only 1-2 of them on target if you count a free kick or two from inside of midfield if they weren’t crosses. Moeller probably had 15-16 shots with 7 or 8 on target. Mason wasn’t a threat to score at all. Moeller’s defense is quite good. The goalie, two CBs and their 6 might be the best defensive spine / combination in the State. Mason does have some solid midfielders, are athletic and defended well. Moeller is creating chances but just needs to finish. This game looked more like a 3-0 game if using the expected goals vs expected goals against stats.

Sure, but xG is for people who make excuses. Sounds like quality all over the field, per usual in this matchup.

Moeller offense finally gets it going as they beat Lexington Henry Clay 3-0 on Saturday. I am no soccer expert but the one thing that may have played into the score was that Henry Clay was very aggressive early on pushing the ball down field and in attack mode. It seems like the last 4 games Moe played the other team was more on defense and not really looking to score until late. I think it opened some opportunities for Moeller.

Was at the Madeira-Indian Hill game last night. Second time I have watched IH…they are as good as advertised…final was 2-0 but could easily have been 4 or 5 -0 if not for some great saves by the Madeira keeper and fantastic and frenetic defense by the Mustangs. IH put on a clinic of one touch passing and literally all 10 field players in constant motion. Madeira did a great job a of heading into half 0-0 but there was just too much constant pressure from IH. If there is a Summit-IH state game I will be there in a heartbeat.
