Scrimmages this week

Seton vs Purcell on Saturday at 3:45 at Purcell
Heard Mason, West Clermont, and Goshen had tri-scrimmage yesterday. Heard Mason looked really good with Coach Gideon and the freshmen is big time, and Parrish could be best player in D1. Also, heard Hale took another jump and looks unstoppable for WC. Goshen will struggle without their point guard from last year who graduated.

Springboro, Mason and Princeton will make for some good basketball come tourney time this season. The Hale girl is still at WC. Thanks for sharing that information as I overheard a star from WC transferred out and expected to see her enrolled at MND.

Saw Walnut against Aiken. Walnut looked solid but not a great sample due to their lack of an opponent. Talked with a parent that said Mt. Healthy didn't look very good against Wyoming.

Purcell vs Seton was a great 1st scrimmage. Initially supposed to be a 2 quarter scrimmage but they decided to play a 3rd. It was the tale of two quarters. Both teams struggled in one quarter and played at a high level in the other. Seton came out up 24-9 after the 1st quarter. I think it was Purcell up 8 after the 2nd quarter. They played an additional quarter with a reset score and Purcell was up 4. All in all, Purcell won but Seton stood their ground.

We all know Purcell is tough. If the Miller twins are on from 3 then you're in big trouble. Wilkins is a great physical post player which made for some great battles down low with Seton's two bigs.... Dee is Dee. Among many great things she does, if she can isolate herself down low with smaller player then that's almost an automatic bucket. If she can improve her outside shooting, she'll be a force at UC. Purcell moved the ball very well in the 2nd quarter and did a great job to create open looks beyond the arc and capitalized.

Seton came out hot. They were hitting their shots from behind the arc but also scored inside. Defense was physical. Moved the ball very well and looked very composed when pressured. Purcell pressed the whole game. In the 2Q there were a couple players that struggled with TO's and their shooting went cold. All in all, I think Coach Smith has these girls on the right path. If they can limit TO's and be more selective with their shooting by not living and dying by the 3, they have the tools to achieve a good amount of success.

Interesting, I was at the scrimmage and unless I was mistaken they had all their same players from last season.

It's possible that Seton TO problems could have been somewhat attributed to not having their returning PG as well. Seton Volleyball is in the Final Four this weekend. She'll work her way back to the basketball court over the next few weeks.

Combs is a good PG but will be a little rusty in the beginning. Rightfully so. She hasn't touched a basketball since the spring. She's a good athlete so it won't be long.

They'll be fine. It's a scrimmage and a time to get girls in there to see what they can do. With that said, you have to protect the ball. Seton has a freshman that could prove to be very valuable for that team IMO if she plays the SG/PG position like she did Saturday.

Anyone know of scrimmages that have already taken place or will be happening for Dayton area teams? would like to check out Fairmont, Oakwood, Centerville, Wayne, West Carrolton, Beavercreek or Bellbrook.
