Play them ALL off!

Since expansion of the D1-A (I don't use the new names) playoffs is going to be pushed and we will eventually wind up where we are re: the playoffs in Ohio HS football, here's a mythical plan to play off ALL the teams.

Each D-1A team plays a 9-game reg season schedule. They play in 8 team REGIONAL Conferences. They have 2 games to schedule as they wish. (Think USC-ND or Air Force vs Army & Navy.)

I believe there're more than 128 teams in D1A. 1st week of playoff is play-in games that're seeded. All 128 teams are seeded based on a power rating or other system 1 thru (say for example) 140.

So in the 1st week most teams are idle but #140 will play #117 at 117's field, 139 vs 118 etc. You get the idea.

The next week the winning teams are added back into the 128 by seeding ranking. And now we go #128 at #1 at 1's field. 2-127 & so on. 2nd round we take those 64 winners & cut to 32. 3rd to 16, 4th to 8, 5th to 4. 6th to 2. 7th we play the National Title game. The TRUE Super Bowl of College Football.

Teams eliminated in their 1st playing round or beyond can schedule 4 more games or less to reach a maximum of 14. (Currently, 12 reg season games, a conference title game and a bowl game = 14 games.) All teams knocked out can schedule games up to 14 even those in later rounds. The Champion will probably play 16 games. What they play in Ohio & Texas HS State Playoffs to get a champion. (If a play-in team reached the Title Game they'd play 17 games. This is NOT likely.)

No Bowl Games & no Conf Title games. Have Hawaii on your schedule & you can play a 15th game. League titles are decided like the 8 team Ivy League format. Teams can share conference titles. incorporate the existing Bowls into the later rounds of the playoffs, if you (NCAA, who will definitely want them) must have them. (I live for the Weed Whacker Bowl in Shreveport LA every year... eyeroll)

Only flaw is some probably early round blowouts as in the Ohio State HS playoffs.

I don't necessarily advocate this plan (I like only select teams that have a legitimate & reasonable argument to be the nation's best team.) but one thing I like if it was ever adopted (It won't be, although it would sure draw nationwide TV interest & $$$ in a major way!) for sure is the restoration of Regional conferences. I'm very opposed to all the realignment going on. I'd prefer that the top 64 or whatever teams just hold a meeting & pullout of the NCAA, go get their own TV deal & set up their own playoff system then all this gradual excruciating annoying movement toward the exact same outcome anyway. I think the ACC will be the next conference to go the way of the PAC-12 or Pac-2 etc.

Any thoughts on this out there?

Remember the golden rule. Those who hath the gold rules. The networks and streaming services will dictate the playoff structure and the colleges will prostrate themselves to get their share of the pie.

Yes... definitely is true... just check the crowds at Thursday, Friday and Tuesday TV College games. The checks are always more important that the students and the fans.

Even OSU has actual attendance versus announced attendance problems for a while. The experience, either in the stands or at home, suffers due to media dictates.

What are we trying to fix here?

What are we trying to fix here?
Not trying to fix anything. It was just a MYTHICAL proposal and I state at the end I don't even really advocate it. Was simply trying to show that it could easily be done (if all teams were of a mind to do it), and it would probably be a regional and later rounds national TV money-a-ganza for the teams and the networks. Would you like to see this, or not? One thing I DO like about it, is the proposed return to Regionally based leagues.
