Should be fired. Just hasn’t gotten Minnesota to where they should be as a program, it really doesn’t help that he was advertised as a more modern 21st century style offense and has been anything but that at Minnesota outside of a year or 2. Coaches like him are why the Big Ten isn’t very good.

Fleck is just an awful recruiter. The speed difference between both teams was apparent even though Minnesota almost won. On a neutral field UNC beats them by two touchdowns which is just a massive problem for Minnesota and the Big Ten.

LOL it is Minnesota a population of less than 6 mill. people where the hell is Fleck suppose to get recruits from. A top recruit from down south is not going to Minny to freeze his a** off in the winter. Keep hating everything BIG (except for your beloved TCUN). How did Minny do before Fleck... worse. Minny is surrounded by North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Iowa, just a hotbed of recruiting talent.

Yeah, I guess he’s done okay. The guys before him, Jerry Kill and Tracy Clays left a solid foundation and were instrumental in getting the boosters to improve the facilities and start supporting the program more than previously. So Fleck walked into a good situation. He’s done well. He wins his bowl games. He does benefit from the growth on the MSP metro, which is heading toward 4 million soon enough. He just seems like he’s stuck right now and his early momentum has stalled. And last night was the type of non-league game these lower level B1G teams need to win.

Football recruiting is like selling a house: location, location, location with a few exceptions, OSU being one of them. Based on recruiting North Carolina should easily beat Minny. Minny has likely hit their ceiling, decent program, but it will never be great. There is a reason why Saban left Mich. St for LSU recruiting, same with Meyer choosing UF over ND recruiting, the talent is down south and that is not going to change. It is why the BIG had to expand more talent in Kalifornia than the rest of the BIG combined, also the money.

Minneapolis- St Paul has talent. Also, the Chicagoland area isn’t too far away. Plus, there’s the Portal.

Lot of talent in Minny St Paul according to 247 sports not one 4/5 star in the entire state of Minnesota in the 25 class. Chicago LOL TCUN, OSU, and a school called ND also recruit Chicagoland plus Illinois and NW, not enough talent in Chicagoland for all those schools. TP yes but about all schools not named Clemson use the TP.

All true, but Wisky and Iowa…his chief rivals…have found a way to do it better and they don’t benefit from being in a major metro like MSP.

Fleck is a good coach. Many a good coach has struggled to win in MN.
I just don't see it, his offenses are just too conservative and doesn't utilize the entire field. I called for Paul Chryst to be fired as well and literally a few weeks later he was gone. Minnesota can and should be much better than this.

Like other posters have said, Minneapolis has some solid talent and Chicago isn't far away. The portal is also available, and if Fleck actually ran an offense recruits could be excited for it would make recruiting other regions a lot easier.

He's trying to sell a bad product and he only has himself to blame. At least Luke Fickell hired an OC that likes to spread the ball out more. Just admit you're a poor fan and enjoy seeing the Big Ten suck.

Lot of school's recruit Minny don't they and Wisky is closer to Chicago than Minny as is ND and the whore named Ann Arbor plus NW and Illinois. Almost all colleges use the TP and Minny will get the leftovers. Lou Holtz who I think was a very good HC was 10 - 12 at Minny, and Fleck has done better than any other HC at Minny in 50 years (guessing). Easy to bash programs but I go by facts and the fact is Fleck has done better than any other HC at Minny in a long, long time. Another fact you are just plain ignorant.

Minnesota is not a very good job from a recruiting standpoint IMO. I agree with @Stirred not Shaken.

Look at the last few classes of recruits in the state of Minnesota. Probably average 10-12 major conference recruits a year, probably 75% or more of which are OL and DL. They don’t get all of them, but generally do a pretty good job in-state. Offensive skill positions and DBs there are few major conference caliber athletes in the state. You have to go find them elsewhere.

That campus is not close to Chicagoland whatsoever. It’s a 6 hour drive from Chicago to Minneapolis. Minny is at an enormous disadvantage against Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Wisconsin (2 1/2 hour drive from Chicago), and in-state Illinois and Northwestern recruiting there.

He did well at the beginning but he's crashed and burned now on his way to a 4th season at Minnesota finishing under 500. The program should have higher expectations considering their history and location in Minneapolis. Last night was a disaster and he's not what the program needs.

Minnesota is probably the worst job in the Big Ten. I doubt Minny can do much better than what they are doing. With that being said Fleck is a used car salesman that would be better off at a group of 5 school

Minneapolis is 5 hours from Milwaukee, 6 hours from Chicago, and 8 1/2 hours from St. Louis.

Madison is less than 1 1/2 hours from Milwaukee, less than 2 1/2 hours from Chicago, and 5 hours from St. Louis.

Iowa City is 4 hours or less from all of Chicago, St. Louis, and Milwaukee.

That is an enormous geographic disadvantage IMO for Minny in regards to competing for the limited power conference skill position talent in their part of the Midwest.

People keep pointing out their geography but look at Oregon (pre NIL as well). If they can make it work then Minnesota can make it work with the right coach,

Quick flight from MSP to ORD or Midway.

1) Nike spent money out their rear ends to make Oregon “cool.”

2) Far more temperate weather in the winter in Eugene than in MSP…like a 20-25 degree difference in daily hi/lo temperatures. Minnesota is a frozen tundra.

Plus last I checked Oregon does border Cali. Really good coaches just don't grow on trees and when you do find one they are very difficult to keep just ask Washington or Mich. St.

NIL helps, but I don’t think this is a very economical solution if trying to get your family to all of your kid’s home games. Better have a Spirit Airlines or equivalent with a Chicago to MSP route.

It does border, but is pretty far flung from where the talent is located in Cal. The advantages that Oregon has is that there are a lot of Jimmys and Joes in California that can play power conference football, and there are few serious FBS football programs on the west coast.

Oregon just about de facto become a top-2 west coast program (with USC) by just spending a ton of money.

Before Fleck was hired Minny had lost 14 straight to Wisky, under Fleck Minny is 3 - 4 vs Wisky so he must be doing something right. 1 - 6 vs Iowa but gophers beat Iowa at Iowa last year 1st time Minny had won at Iowa since 1999. Minny is a very hard place to win, and Fleck has done better than anyone else in the last 50 - 60 years.

1. Correct but it’s not like they were recruiting warriors during that time, they got it done with scheme and speed.

2. I seem to recall Minnesota installing heated turf during the 2014 season because the Vikings were also playing there. Not to mention the coldest months these kids aren’t playing football unlike the NFL

Unfortunately still have to live there, and I don’t think that’s very appealing for kids from the south. Honestly this is probably the worst Big Ten job in terms of recruiting proximity to talent.

Average temperatures in January and February are low to mid 20s for daytime highs with lows in the high single digits. Hard sell if you’re from Florida or Georgia. Probably need to be showering NIL to beat southern G5 schools for 3 star kids that play “athlete” positions.
