One announcer...two tournaments...two networks

Is it true Beth Mowins called the NCAA men's games in Spokane on Friday then hopped on a plane to Iowa to call the Hawkeyes' game on ABC the next day? Forget Caitlin Clark. This is the reincarnation of Dick Clark.

I detest when she’s assigned to men’s basketball and football. No place for a woman’s voice. Nails on a chalkboard. Sports are men’s escape from their women - haha.

Herbstreit does stuff like that during the fall 12+ weeks in a row.
- Thursday night NFL game on Amazon
- Fly Friday to College Game Day site
- FLy after GameDay to whatever game he is calling that same evening.

Ouch.

If she called men’s tourney games, it had to be radio since she wasn’t on CBS/Turner’s eight announcing crews.

No. She did some of the men’s early round tourney games. You were correct.
Not on TV, at least. Lisa Byington was the only woman play-by-play announcer in the men’s first and second round games. Deb Antonelli was the only woman analyst doing men’s first and second-round games.

Maybe it was Byington on the men’s games. Similar voices. Same effect. Nails on chalkboard.

I saw a video where the announcer was referred to as Lisa. Thank you for clearing that up.
Still, how could Beth Mowins be allowed to still work at ESPN and call NFL games on CBS? That was partially where the reference to Dick Clark came from.

A number of people work for multiple networks, especially when you start considering local sports gigs. A few examples:

1. Kevin Harlan does NBA on TNT and NFL and college basketball on CBS. And occasionally does radio.

2. Dan Shulman (Blue Jays TV), Dave O’Brien (Red Sox TV) and Jon Sciambi (Cubs TV) are among those who work for ESPN during college basketball season. Dave Flemming does Giants’ TV/radio along with ESPN college football, college basketball and occasional ESPN+ help on big golf events.

3. Jason Benetti does Detroit Tigers TV and does FOX college hoops, college football, and occasional MLB, plus occasional radio gigs. Joe Davis does Dodgers TV and also does MLB and NFL for FOX.

4. Bill Raftery works for both FOX and CBS. Fellow FOX analysts Jim Jackson and Robbie Hummel were used by CBS/Turner for the tournament.

5. Brian Anderson does Brewers TV, the NBA on TNT and the NCAA Tournament.

6. Adam Amin does Chicago Bulls TV and the NFL and MLB on FOX.

7. Stephen Nelson is Joe Davis’ fill-in on Dodgers TV. He also does occasional ESPN SportsCenter from LA and he does Apple TV+ Friday Night Baseball.

8. Not only does Beth Mowins do sports on ESPN and occasional CBS NFL games, but she’s also Jon Sciambi’s fill-in for most Sunday Cubs games on Marquee.

9. Nate Burleson used to work on GMFB all week on NFL Network and then do the CBS NFL studio show on Sundays.

I thought Bill Raftery worked for two networks. Some people miss Gus Johnson on the NCAA tournament trail.
