OHSFCA Top 25 playoff teams & trivia

They beat Marion in 2020 playoffs. Or did you mean this past season?
No. I meant did you not read the rest of that post or TriangleMan's post just prior to your first one? Are you getting senile on me? I mean after all you are exceedingly old now and I don't want to make fun of you if you have a diminished mental capacity. God knows there wasn't much there even at full capabilities! :)

Good Lord, you may be right. smh
:)

Talking about Kilbourne making two semifinals appearances and losing both made me think of something. I may be wrong on this but off the top of my head I can only think of one public school team that has played in a state championship game that has never played a private school in the playoffs. To the best of my knowledge all the public schools that have won state titles have played a private school in the playoffs at some point.

Obviously from the above the team I am thinking of lost to another public school in a title game. Can anybody name that team?

What State Championship Team/s had a FB as the leading rusher in the State Championship game?
Would I be wrong if I said Clinton-Massie in 2012, 13 & this year? I'm assuming you mean led the winning team in rushing as I'm pretty sure Ursuline's Mr. McElroy was the leading rusher in the game this year. Bayle Wolfe in 2012 & 13 and Mr. Trampler last week?

Jim Valentine did it for Warren Harding way back in 1974 against Upper Arlington keyed by two 70+ yard TD runs. He might still be running. :)

For Cardinal Mooney, John Klein in 1982 & Dean Cicoretti in 1987 did it. The rest of their title teams were led by the TB or QB.

Does Vellejo count? If so you can put Carey in there. (He's a FB/RB depending on formation, as they run multiple formations)
I would say he counts.

That's the one. Excellent job.

Trotwood Madison 2017 - won DIII and beat D1 champ Pickerington Central.
Yes sir. Very good. There is one more.

Warren Western Reserve 1972 Won AAA beat AA Champ Akron St. Vincent - St. Marys
There it is. Outstanding.

When you think about the fact that only 3 teams were crowned champions back then it is amazing that two of them came out of the same league, a league that really was not considered to be all that strong IIRC.

The longest streak of consecutive seasons qualifying for and going winless in the playoffs is 5.

There are 8 teams that have had such a stretch.

Can you name them and the seasons?

a) Anna 2000-2004
b) Casstown Miami East 2014-2018
c) Cincinnati Mt. Healthy 2001-2005
d) Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy 2005-2009
e) Lockland 2007-2011
f) Medina Buckeye 2013-2017
g) New Philadelphia 2011-2015
h) Northwood 2009-2013

All credit to reganaustinjames for these.

In another thread it was mentioned that Tom Lombardo is the only Head Coach that has won a State Championship at two different schools (St. Edward '21, '18, '15 and Lake Catholic '01).

There are 6 other Head Coaches that have taken more than one school to the State Championship game.

Can you name the coaches, their schools, and all the years they coached in the State Championship?

Alphabetically
a) Mike Currence (0-3) - St. Edward '75 AAA (loss); Massillon Washington '80 D1 (loss), '82 D1 (loss) - Scipio

I was going by memory so I looked it up and didn’t remember that he retired from McKinley after ‘97 season. So only ‘97, not ‘98.

Mike Currence St.Edward 1975, Massillon 1980, 1982
Scipio,

I'm going to stay out of answering these except to say the following:

One of the coaches TriangleMan is looking for won a title at your alma mater and then lost in the final with another school 10 years later.
