Ohio's Highest HS Football Winning Percentages All-Time

I have updated this tables, showing the all-time highest winning percentage teams in Ohio HS football-- to reflect the results of games this weekend-- for Wyoming, Moeller, Massillon Washington, Steubenville, and Maria Stein Marion Local, and (last week) Mogadore-- and also added in the all-time results for Canfield South Range-- who moves into the Top Five all-time, in this updated table:



As one can see, if compared with the table before this weekend, the rank order did not change, but Wyoming, CSR, and MSML increased their winning percentages with wins this weekend, while Moeller, Massillon Washington, Steubenville, and Mogadore saw their winning percentages fall (ever so slightly), with losses.

If ties are excluded from results, Wyoming remains #1 all-time; if ties are included Moeller remains #1 all-time-- but Canfield South Range would now be #2 on that list (just slightly ahead of Warren Western Reserve).

As you can see the rank order did not change, but Wyoming and MSML increased their winning percentages with wins this weekend, while Moeller, Massillon Washington, Steubenville, and Mogadore saw their winning percentages fall (ever so slightly), with losses.

Right-- I have edited the list to reflect that, already-- I forgot to include Canfield South Range's data in the table, when I first posted it.

Very impressive list, it is extremely difficult to withstand the test of time.

Here is the #'s for West Jefferson through 2022:
* 629 wins, 305 losses, 24 ties for a 66.91% winning percentage
* 96 seasons - 72 winning seasons, 21 losing seasons, 3 five hundred seasons
* Only 1 losing decade, 1950's
* Had a 42 consecutive winning seasons from 1958 to 1999 (322-86-7, 78.43%)
*** During this 42 year winning streak WJ had 21 league titles, 11 playoff appearances in 28 years and 3 State Titles in 1962, 1976 & 1982 with 4 different head coaches although the 4th only coached at WJ for one season.

Since the playoffs began in 1972 (51 seasons), WJ is:
* 393-158-4 for a 71.17% winning percentage
* 25 playoff appearances with the 2 State Titles in 1976 & 1982, losing to the eventual state champs 7 times and eventual state runner-up 5 times

It is so difficult to develop & grow a football program to a perennial power, it may be more difficult to continue it from one head coach to another. In the end, it takes the whole community. No one player or coach is bigger than the program. Congratulations to the players, coaches, administration, parents, family, alumni and communities of the teams on this list.

The biggest problem(s) is the lack of class, character, how one conducts their business - ie recruiting…those are far greater problems with you & the some of the fan base of your beloved school.

You should read the Marion Local-Kirtland thread. You and a few of your buddies could learn quite a bit from those two programs…….and they play peewee football.

I know it’s been over 50 years, but there has to be some good things going on in your life that trumps your Tigers winning a title on the field. This is a great table-- with some very useful data-- although, at the risk of re-opening Pandora's box on this again, Wyoming started playing in 1919. I'm not sure why the OHSAA only chooses to show Wyoming's record as going back to 1931 (it doesn't reduce Wyoming's winning percentage, to reflect the data back to 1919-- in fact, the data above almost certainly includes ALL of Wyoming's games-- but is simply mis-labeled by the OHSAA as being for the period from 1931-2019)... but, either way, Wyoming is currently atop the winning percentage list...

I'm not sure why Moeller does not appear on this list... and Maria Stein Marion Local is piling up wins at such a prodigious rate that I fully expect to see them topping this list, some time in the next ~decade...
