Ohio State @ Notre Dame

Surprised there isn't a thread already. All the ND fans I speak to are thinking this will be the game that propels them back into the playoff talk where as the tOSU fans are not quite as confident but then again they like their chances better now after the WKU game. Current Vegas numbers

Notre Dame +3
Total 54.5
tOSU -155
ND +135

And by the way it is one of the busiest wedding weekends of the year. The trend has been September weddings in the Midwest and I will be at one of those with a bunch of guys watching this on a mobile device. Hope a big play happens while the maid of honor is giving her toast.

I know what the first two are. But what does tOSU -155 and ND +135 mean?

People who schedule weddings on fall Saturdays are pure evil.

I lost a dear friend last week due to a heart attack after a choking incident. She doesn't have a church or pastor. Her husband called me to give the bad news. A few hours later he called me back to ask if I would officiate a memorial service. I'm not a pastor, but I get asked to do funerals and memorial services from time to time. I decline most of them - and certainly those scheduled on CFB Saturdays.

I had to say yes on this one, and I crossed my fingers the family would not choose a Sat. He got back to me with Sat Oct 14. I suggested the evening of Fri the 13th or Sun afternoon the 15th. No, it has to be the 14th. It's a conspiracy. Lol.

The service will start at 11 AM. It's a 1 1/2 hour drive. Meal afterward. The service will be 45-60 min and an hour to eat will put the ETD at 1 PM + 90 min home with an ETA of 2 30 PM. Not bad.

But I'm gabby and if the family wants to reminisce, that will push things later.

Still, she is worth it. I suppose I can forgive her for dying in the fall since she didn't exactly choose it.

But people who schedule weddings on fall Sat are intentionally harming people. :)

The wife works at a large church and they are double booked almost every Saturday in September with some Fridays in the books too. It is by far the driest warm month of the year in the Great Lakes and usually there are cooler temps so dudes are not sweating bullets like they do in July or August for formal outside pictures.

Strait bet money line for a team to win. If you do not want to account for the spread you have to bet $155 to win $100 if you pick Ohio State and if you play $100 for Notre Dame to win you get $135. The difference is the profit for the house.

As for the game, when I looked at the line Sat night it was OSU -7.5. That seemed about right but -3 works too. I was hoping ND would be the favorite, but I get why they aren't.

I think Sam Hartman has to be elite in this game for ND to win. Not good. Elite. I say that assuming that ND will not be able to consistently move the ball on the ground and that he will have to make a bunch of tight window throws to move the chains and score TDs. All of that changes if that assumption is wrong. He can just be good if they can run the ball.

On the other side of the ball, I like the Irish D as a unit, but I don't think there is any defense can stop the Ohio St skill talent if they are humming. What can stop them is poor QB play, poor pass protection leading to sacks, stupid penalties, turning the ball over, and clunky playcalling.

I want this game to be about a Buckeye lining up across from an Irish player and, collectively, may the best players win - because with a couple of exceptions the best players will be Buckeyes. But that's not the way it always works out. Should be fun.

Those who schedule their weddings on Fridays in the fall are instant saints and have an express lane to heaven.

I'm pretty sure that's in the Bible.

Thanks. I always wanted to know.

ND should win. Ohio State just does not look buttoned up, especially on offense. McCord in that environment is probably going to be tough to watch. I wish I had confidence in Day to adjust his gameplan to his talent instead of trying to act like he has a top tier QB. They're like 18 deep a RB. Use them.

Issue is the line isn’t as good at run blocking as they are at pass blocking

I think you are going to be surprised by late Sat night. I certainly think ND has a path to victory, but it is more narrow. It will be a dog fight for a half or more - or Ohio St will just sieze the game from the KO.

If you are ND, you have a major problem in how you are going to contain 18, 2, 4, 6, 32, and 3. But you do have the bearded Messiah who can just answer whatever is happening on the other side of the ball - and there's where your chance of a mild upset exists.

Can't wait to see how it plays out.

Weddings are ghey, even gheyer in football season.

Buckeye’s QB wears his BIG boy pants and ground patrol rotates in,OSU controls the ball game…BAM!

I don’t see how Ohio State is even close to being a favorite in this game. They have not looked impressive against mediocre to bad competition. If they can magically turn on the switch then great but I’m not expecting it

I guess everyone brings their own experience, eyes, and ways of looking at teams.

The skill players at Ohio St are probably the best group in the country. If not, they are in the top 3. Their roster is top 3 in terms of talent. Their defense has the best statistical start than any Buckeye D going back to 1975. They will be a more talented team, top to bottom, than any team they play - including ND, PSU, and scUM. That alone makes them favorites, even tho they are on the road against a very good opponent.

If McCord was a more proven commodity, and the OL had a more consistent track record, they would be double digit favorites. Those are the question marks and there is some uncertainty about how they will perform in that environment.

ND certainly can win, but Ohio State should win. I think if ND scores >22 points, the Buckeyes have about an 80% chance of winning. You get to the mid 20s in ND points and it is still about 60%. Upper 20's becomes a toss up and over 30 the odds tip to ND.

I'm looking for a 28-24ish game.

Ohio State is the favorite because of the betting public. If this game was a pickem the majority of the bettors would take OSU.

I would have to give a slight edge to the Domers.
The uncertainty that still surrounds State's offensive line is one reason. The other is Sam Hartman. He plays at a level greater than his skills. He is a confident leader. He has an indefinable "it" factor like Stetson Bennett. That is something Ryan Days QB's have lacked despite their stats and Heisman votes.

No outcome would surprise me. Though my heart says Ohio State prevails, reason dictates a Irish win: 21-16

I'm hoping McCord has a breakout game and the Buckeyes throttle the Irish. But I know better. ROTFLMAO!

I listen to these guys. They are pretty good.

I think that those who think Ohio St is a flawed football team that will lose in its first real test on the road are vastly underestimating how buttoned up they are in all 3 phases AND, most importantly, what their greatest strength is.

As an old DB, I can tell you that lining up 18 out wide and 2 inside of him, is absolutely terrifying and puts a defense in a real bind as to how to deal with that in the context that the TE is a receiving weapon and Julian Flemming (kinda under the radar) is having a really, really good year pass catching and blocking - in addition to however you address that nightmare, it is probably going to make you more vulnerable against the running backs. That's the kind of stuff that keeps DCs up all night. If ND has a good answer to that, they will probably win. If they don't, TD Jesus will not be happy.

The easiest way to do it is extreme pressure on the QB and stop the run on the way to the QB. 18 and 2 aren't as effective if their QB is looking through his ear hole when he throws. The other way is to play zone, more or less allow the ball to be moved between the 20s, then buckle down in the red zone and force the young QB to make tight window throws under pressure with the field condensed - and be happy to give up 3.

It will be really interesting to see what approach the Irish choose. But it makes sense to make McCord beat them. FWIW

19-23, 312 yards, 3 TDs, 0 Int seems pretty good to me. Now, you have to factor in the quality of the defense, but that would be a heckuva performance in a practice.

I don't know how we define "breakout", but that stat line represents an outstanding performance.

Make sure that TV has got the color parameters dialed in as the Irish will be rocking some vibrant unis:

Personally I like the jerseys but wished they would go with the gold pants to match back to the helmets:

I had mine on a fall Friday for this reason. ;)

Good buddy had his on a weekend in early October. Had a TV in the back room of the reception hall. Wouldn't you know it? A fight broke out. Between an OSU fan and a UM fan over who was better, Beanie Wells or Mike Hart. Only in Ohio.

I have gone to a couple of Jewish weddings on a Sunday, mostly happen in the spring and summer months so they don't have to compete with NFL football. The positive is if it is not a good party work the next day is a way to get out early, the down side is if it is a good party you have to go to work the next day.
