OCC-Buckeye Division Girls Basketball Awards Announced
The Ohio Capital Conference (OCC) has announced the 2024-25 All-OCC-Buckeye Division girls basketball awards. The top honors went to Reynoldsburg's Sa'Mahn Johnson, who was named Player of the Year, and Pickerington Central's Johnathan Hedgepeth, who earned Coach of the Year recognition.
Teays Valley Vikings Honored
Teays Valley was well-represented in the 2024-25 All-OCC Buckeye Division girls basketball awards. Tessa Horsley, a sophomore, earned a spot on the Second Team ALL-OCC. Fellow sophomores Cami Robbins and Avery Mann received Special Mention ALL-OCC and Honorable Mention ALL-OCC honors, respectively. Junior Cooper Mcmanaway also garnered Special Mention ALL-OCC recognition. Additionally, senior Kylie Burgett was named a Scholar-Athlete ALL-OCC, highlighting her academic achievements alongside her athletic accomplishments.
First Team All-OCC-Buckeye Division
The First Team All-OCC-Buckeye Division selections included Reynoldsburg's Sa'Mahn Johnson, a senior who had a dominant season. Pickerington Central was well-represented with three selections: Zoe Coleman, a sophomore; London Johnson, a junior; and Blossom Wallace, also a junior. Newark's dynamic duo of Emma Quackenbush and Calli Geller, both sophomores, earned spots, along with their freshman teammate Leah Eckenrode. Rounding out the First Team were Molly Stedman, a junior from Lancaster, and Pierce Cephas, a senior from Canal Winchester.
Second Team All-OCC-Buckeye Division
Logan's Makenzie Daubenmire, a senior, and Groveport's Aubriona Benjamin, also a senior, earned recognition. Teays Valley's Tessa Horsley, a sophomore, and Newark's Addi Hall, a senior, were also selected. Pickerington Central had two more representatives: Kennady Gordon, a senior, and Deyon Smith, a sophomore. Canal Winchester's Lilly Kissinger, a junior, and Reynoldsburg's Malaya Collins, a senior, were also honored. Lancaster's Lily Stoughton, a senior, and Reynoldsburg's Deyona Carter, also a senior, completed the Second Team.
Special Mention and Honorable Mention
Several players received Special Mention recognition, including Ryann Landis (JR), Logan; Cami Robbins (SO), Teays Valley; Kylan Pugh (SR), Lancaster; Rylee Bess (SR), Pickerington Central; Aubree Price (SR), Reynoldsburg; Annie Dearth (SR), Canal Winchester; and Harper Allen (JR), Lancaster. Honorable Mention recipients included Emalene Chevalier (SR), Lancaster; Mikaila Asamoah (SR), Pickerington Central; Isabel Angeles (SR), Newark; Kendyl Bowens (SO), Reynoldsburg; Avery Mann (SO), Teays Valley; Ashley Cicora (FR), Canal Winchester; and Ella Hinton (SO), Logan.
Scholar-Athlete Awards
The OCC-Buckeye Division also recognized several student-athletes for their academic achievements. Player of the Year: Sa'Mahn Johnson
Reynoldsburg's Sa'Mahn Johnson was named the OCC-Buckeye Division Player of the Year. Johnson, a senior, had an outstanding season, leading her team to a successful year.
Coach of the Year: Johnathan Hedgepeth
Pickerington Central's Johnathan Hedgepeth was named the OCC-Buckeye Division Coach of the Year. Hedgepeth guided his team to a strong season, earning him this recognition.
Player of the Year: Sa'Mahn Johnson
Sa'Mahn Johnson of Reynoldsburg was named the OCC-Buckeye Division Player of the Year. The senior led the Raiders to a 14-10 overall record and a third-place finish in the OCC Buckeye division with a 10-3 divisional record.
Coach of the Year: Johnathan Hedgepeth
Johnathan Hedgepeth of Pickerington Central earned OCC-Buckeye Division Coach of the Year honors, guiding his team to an impressive 22-3 overall record and a perfect 14-0 record in the OCC Buckeye division
