OATCC & Milesplit

I just learned that the athletes results who competed at Eastern Indoor this weekend would not be eligible for indoor state. Am I reading this correctly?
  1. Performances must occur at an indoor track & field meet that uses MileSplit for its registration process, regardless of the state in which the meet is contested. Note—Performances from meets that have results listed on MileSplit but did not use MileSplit for the registration process shall not be considered for eligibility in the 2025 OATCCC Indoor State Track & Field Championship Meet.
It seems like for a group representing the coaches who want what is best for the kids and the sport would not have made this agreement with mile split.

This same sort of thing came up years back with the UK meet (oh, how I miss that meet) when OATCCC first made their agreement with Milesplit. After much protest from several coaches, the OATCCC eventually bent and expanded the field a bit that year to take both the UK athletes that qualifed and any athlete who would have made it if the UK performances were excluded.

I'm sure there's financial incentive for the Milesplit rule to exist, and to be fair, the rule is published in the pre-season info ever year, but It does seem unfair to a kid to exclude him/her simply because of the platform entries were entered into.

'Registration process' is the key wording in this statement.
I would argue that Eastern has all its registration information on milesplit and used this as a part of its registration process.

What is the reasoning and purpose of having all races use Milesplit for registration?

Is OATCCC receiving kickbacks from Milesplit? When government entities place private companies in their bylaws it sounds like corruption.

It's a coaches association not government. Aren't you a member of the OATCCC?

The OATCCC had decided that is how they are going to do it. Easy enough. When we host an invitational, we have one way to register. Don't use it, don't get in. Same concept.

yet these same meets are listed on MileSplit calendar, the results are listed on MileSplit and yet the results are included. If the meets don't count and are not using their registration system, then MileSplit shouldn't list them.
It's bad for the kids who can't go to all the meets up north where there are many more opportunities each weekend.

Their meet, their choice. But what about the results from that meet being manipulated or omitted on Milesplit? Individual results show as having been performed by "Unattached/Club" athletes (and therefore appearing on seemingly newly created profiles for those individuals) and relay results aren't anywhere to be found. For example, Mason girls ran 3:56 in the 4x400, but there's zero evidence of it on Milesplit.

the relays were posted on their previous and since removed.

Strange that they were there and then disappeared. Regardless of whether or not they will work as a state qualifer and end up on the official state qualifier list, they are times run by Ohio schools. Why would they be removed from the data base?

My opinions: A database is only as good and useful as it is complete. Every mark posted by every Ohio kid should be included in the Ohio lists.
Organizations/hosts have the right to choose their entry pathway. Using post/don't post rules as leverage runs counter to the goal of being a complete and useful database.

The OAT&CCC Performance Lists in each division (D1, D2, D3 & D4) will reflect the TOP 30 athletes or relay teams in each event. The lists will be posted on MileSplit Ohio

Only marks meeting the following requirements will be included on the performance lists:

  1. Performances must occur during the 2025 indoor track & field season from December 1, 2024 until February 23, 2025.
  3. Performances shall be by an athlete entered in a meet using MileSplit registration and the athlete must be entered as representing their verified school’s Indoor Track & Field team. Performances by athletes designated as “unattached” or with a club team shall not be eligible to be considered for the 2025 OATCCC Indoor State Track & Field Championship Meet. An athlete’s affiliation associated with a performance shall not be changed after the performance has been accomplished to comply with this requirement as stated.
  4. The starting heights in the high jump and pole vault will be posted with the final performance lists.
The final performance lists posted on MileSplit Ohio on February 26, 2025, will only reflect athletes who are members of verified indoor track & field teams.

I understand why these performances will not appear in the official state qualifying lists that are periodically posted in Milesplit, but why have they been removed from the Milesplit site as a whole? Beavercreek ran 8:05 in the 4x8, which should rank them fourth or fifth in the state (I don’t recall the decimals). They were listed for a day or two, then removed. Isn’t the milesplit database supposed to represent all the available results from Ohio athletes? This meet was timed by a reputable timing company, and results were uploaded to milesplit.

My apologies I said government entity instead of a nonprofit. I still do not enjoy the listing of milesplit in a rule.
What is the motive and incentive for milesplit and OATCCC?

What ramifications does this have for any national meet qualifying? These marks should be accredited to the schools by milesplit regardless of what OATCCC dictates.

Not to mention the exorbitant extra fees charged to even register athletes all season during indoor. Our school does not pay for indoor. Extra Fees come out of the coaches pocket.

I either paid to enter my son unattached or paid the coaches back if they entered him as a team member. Yes, I spent a couple hundred dollars for entry fees and admission for the season.

It's still cheaper than travel baseball.

Wow, what's travel baseball like?

I've heard families dropping as much as $1500 for a single weekend tournament by the time they add up the entry fees, hotel costs, meals, etc. $10-15k for a season is not unheard of. All of that to chase a $10-15k scholarship. They'd be better off investing the money and playing in the local sandlot.
