Noah

Big names in it too but no buzz at all.

By the way I'm hearing the dopey Muppets flick is the best film out now.

I'll be seeing it tomorrow night. Actually I'm pretty excited as the director has had some interesting stuff and "bible" epics, when done well, can be fantastic.

BTW, the last time I looked Noah was running at 80% "fresh" on RT which given the natural bias of reviewers against anything "biblical" is very good.

FWIW the national movie critic on WLW this morning gave very favorable reviews for both Noah and The Grand Budapest Hotel. 4/5 stars for Noah 4.5/5 stars for The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Reviews have been good but not great for Noah, mostly ***. One callout I have been hearing about is that it could have been a great character study film but CGI gets in the way. After character studies like the Wrestler and Black Swan I wonder if Aronofsky wanted to make a few $s and try a different way of making a movie.

My teenage kids are telling me that Divergent is also just a good film and they were hoping for more then a Hunger Games type knock off; Shailene Woodley shines though and is a star in the making. Speaking of Shailene Woodley, they are very excited for The Fault In Our Stars and that could be the big non comic book film this summer.

Saw Noah last night and really liked it. Sure, it has some serious flaws but it's visually interesting with some absolutely stunning sequences. In fact the visual tone is dream like from strange lights in the sky to a frighteningly blasted landscape there's an other worldliness to the whole movie.

As to the over the top "environmental" message, only a passing reference to the evils of eating meat (sorry, but a steak is still the best food) bothered me as a conservative who thinks the global warming scare is the biggest scientific fraud since "poly water"! Whether you're on the Left or right, the utter disdain in which this movie envisions humans treating each other and the Earth earns them the destruction they get. What is shown on screen is TRUE pollution and environmental destruction, not the nonsense that passes for "issues" (preserving the snail darter anyone) in today's enviro-nazi activities!

Bottom line is if you want to see something different and challenging check this movie out. At least it's not the same comic strip, sequel, prequel, drivel being produced by Hollywood.

Like The Hobbit?

No as the Hobbit is a movie from a literature source and has more original thought in any random ten minute sequence then any of the comic book epics of the last decade. For sure turning it into THREE movies was crazy from a pacing standpoint but brilliant from a money position as the first two movies have combined for TWO BILLION dollars in Box office!

Saw it last night. Not sure what I think. It was entertaining and had promise but ultimately fell short. I felt bored for periods at a time.
