NIL is going to kill college sports!

Schools are already shutting down minor sports in order to pay for football and basketball. If the numbers this guy is throwing around are true I don’t see how most schools will compete. I don’t like Michigan but this is not just a Michigan issue this is an NCAA issue. I think top tiered athletes should be compensated some at the major universities but once you go there with how NIL is set up the more outlandish it will get.

It already has for me. Even as a Michigan fan, to continue to hound Underwood and offer him $10 million is pathetic.

It's not a great look and for some select big time programs, you have crazed boosters who will open their pockets, but ONLY for top football and or basketball talent. How will the "minor" sports survive? College sports was intended to extend and enhance the college experience - student / athletes. Just a few of these guys are making generational wealth before they are 20 years old? And it's status quo for most college athletes not associated with the major programs. Also, those boosters who used to give to the "general athletic fund" can now earmark dollars for certain sports and it just takes away from the others. It's a mess and no one wants to address it.

Last week I read where Michigan was offering him a $10.5 million NIL package. I don't blame the young man at all but this is getting insane.

I question the people who offer an 18 year old this kind of money. I mean where are our priorities these days? Is it really that important to get a good high school QB for your favorite football team?
What do we see in pro sports when many young guys suddenly have generational wealth? The carrot is gone. They get wrapped up in their money and others get involved in their lives. Is sports important to them anymore? What happens to some when they win the lottery?

I salute Underwood and tip my cap to him if he really got as much as $12-13 million, but ungodly massive deals like this one supposedly is makes me question a number of items. What happens if the money falls through? What happens if the player transfers out after the first year (I.e. quick money grab)? What happens if the player doesn’t perform to expectations?

Regulation needs to increase on this, along with actual contracts.

The question I always think of is this. If a player signs a NIL deal (smaller deal than this one) is it common to make it mandatory in the contract that they cant sit out any of the playoff games ( to protect from injurybefore draft). The teams have to really cover their rear ends in these deals.

NIL deals cannot have pay to play clauses. It is one of the few rules and regulations the NCAA did put in place.

Are they THAT damn PATHETIC? They had BETTER go 90-0, before he's done!!! Our damn QB got a Lamborghini, and a trophy girlfriend. And he hasn't done SQUAT since. APPARENTLY, Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey will make ANYBODY look like a first round draft choice.
