NFL>>>>>NCAA Football

College football is a mess. Transfer. Leave early. Sit out of late season games.

As a coach ya gotta go kiss the asssses of these snotnosed brats and schmooze the parents.

F. That.

The KC-Cincy game had 47+mill viewers, not bad for an early game.
It's because college is more regionalized. For the most part, fans of the teams amd conferences truly care about it.

NFL ratings prove which level Americans prefer.

Much of it goes to competitiveness. I know alot of y'all love OSU....but really only a few games are worth even watching.

Great point. Not to mention zero competition for the AFC/NFC Championship games. Nothing worth watching is on TV and it is usually cold in most areas of the country so even a passive fan has the game on.

It's.nearly impossible for colleges to market their players. Transfer, leave early, etc......

No TV executive would dare bring anything decent up against NFL playoff football, heck NY Day Bowl games move off of January 1 if it is a Sunday and the NFL is playing.

Being in the business of sports outside of QBs the NFL really doesn't market their players, they are considered the ultimate team sport and you cannot see their faces during play. On the flip side guess what is marketed for NCAA football, the coaches. The two coaches for the Mississippi SEC schools are more well known than the two coaches in the Super Bowl.

The NCAA needs to really do two things if they want to grow the sport back to where it was 20 years ago:
  1. They need to move away from the Regionalization model and make it more of a national sport, this will be very tough because some programs will have to give up their built in advantages.
  2. The way the game flows on the field has to improve so that it is more entertaining and engaging.
The last high water mark for the sport was probably the 2005 national championship between Texas and USC. It had everything you wanted in a post season game and then some.

They did adopt more of the NFL timing rules to keep it flowing.
Remember the old days of the clock stopping on an put of bounds play until the next snap? Now is started when it's spotted except for end of half, game.

NFL itself may not market players directly, but do so by the time slots they get and obviously.....the networks and advertisers do.

Competitive games are what hurts college. Fans of teams love winning, but I guarantee wins are not interesting for the rest of the population.

Almost any NFL game one is not too surprised of a close or OT game no matter the matchup.
OSU.....most games are decided the second they are scheduled.
