New enrollment numbers?

Division 1 - 638 and up (64 schools)
Division 2 - 457-637 (64 schools)
Division 3 - 281-456 (134 schools)
Division 4 - 193-280 (134 schools)
Division 5 - 143-192 (132 schools)
Division 6 - 99-142 (135 schools)
Division 7 - 98 or less (136 schools)

This was the most recent chart that the OHSAA put out. That could adjust slightly based on CB # and enrollment figures going into next year, but that should be pretty close.

Division 3 thru 7 have up to 130 something schools. How long before coaching start yelling again wanting them down to 64 like division 1 and 2? "shrug"

Those complaints should not happen because the ones with only 64 teams will be the biggest schools in Ohio, enrollment wise. If so, cry me a river lol.

What is the reasoning behind Divisions 1 & 2 having fewer schools? What difference does it make that the enrollment is bigger? They still play five at a time on the court.

Even with the new D1, schools might have almost twice as many students as the 64th school. Can't split up the bigger schools any more.

I appreciate the information. So it’s the disparity in enrollment size of #1 and #143 (?) that it is now. Got it. It will be interesting to see what it becomes with #1 and #64.

Yeah in bb right now you have a range of 400 or so boys up to 1300 in grades 10-12 in D1.

enrollment isn't everything One school may have twice the enrollment but only have a pool of half the interested athletes as a much smaller school with twice as many athletes to pick from

so if they vote to decide opting up to D1, does the lowest enrollment team in D1 drop to D2 every time a school opts up ?
No. No other school changes their division because another school choose to move up to D1. The proposal clearly explains that.

That part! and people aren't getting this! Enrollment is not the be-all-end all. What is your student culture like?

The enrollment isn't everything, but the culture improves with winning tournament games and it actually being realistic to make a run.

.......or bringing in multiple students who just happen to be great athletes. You only need 7 or 8 good basketball players to be competitive. You can do that out of an enrollment of 400 that all live in the same public school district......but you can do it a lot easier with an enrollment of 1200.....many who enrolled in the school from 10 miles, 20 miles or even further from the school......who just happen to be 6'7 and really, really good at basketball lol

Will it run on this years enrollment figures for next year or will the re-evaluate with the move to seven divisions? I believe they normally go on two year cycles with this being year one but wondered if they would re-calculate with the new system.
