Ned Reeb

Looks like the next big meet is the Ned Reeb on January 9. Centerville will be attending for the first time. University will be back. UA should have more than a token presence at this meet, so we should find out if the UA boys are for real or just look good on paper. Can SC improve on their Big 8 performance? The field is bigger at the Ned Reeb and each team can enter up to 6 swimmers per event. Given SC size that could help them. The teams all will be coming off the holiday practices, so will they just naturally be faster because their work outs are beginning to ease? After SC & UA who will be the stand out Central Ohio teams? Predictions on the team scores?

Should be a very fast meet. My prediction of top 10 teams:
Cville
University
UA
SC
New Albany
Liberty
Scioto
Westerville Central
Thomas
Jerome

from what i have heard toledo sf will be there as well making the meet even faster, margo geer will be swimming as well

Boy that would be great if StF is there. However, it is not listed on their schedule. Instead they are suppose to be swimming at the Little Giant in Fremont. Maybe they are splitting their squad. With or without them this will be the deepest Ned Reeb in recent memory. If StF does come then it will gather all the best teams (with the exception of StX) in a true big meet format. Hope what you heard is correct ohiocuse!

do you have something against centerville

they cant rest for certain meet because half of their best swimmers swim for the dayton raiders and the other half the wtrc sharks and their head coach has no say in tapering for nontaper meets

so leave them alone

wow! calm down bud i just asked a question im not ridiculing them in any way. yeah and of course who doesnt hate cville... lol

I believe that Frank Croft, the Meet Director already received St. Francis' entries for Ned Reeb. So count on them being there. Looking at swimmeet's Ohio top 20, Reeb should have most of them. We may also get a preview of who is swimming what come sectionals.

That's great news preeder. This will be the most competitive Ned Reeb ever. And you're right a large number of the top 20 will be present including 13 of the top 20 200 freestylers and 12 of the top 20 500 freestylers. Should make for some great racing.

Based on the psych sheet, 12 may be present but only six chose to swim the 500...and only 4 out of the current top-15. Some swimmers such as Dan Disalle, Gutierrez, Spangler, Williams, etc chose other events. Still, the finals heat should be pretty fast. However, I would not be surprised to see a couple 5:00+ make consols.

Based on the psych sheet times here's how the meet scores out (diving is not included):
1. Cville 326
2. Unv. 244
3. UA 232
4. StF 219
5. New Albany 179
6. SC 154
7. Sycamore 96
8. Col. DeSales 81
9. Dublin Scioto 66
10. Olent. Liberty 64

Expect some to move up and some to move down as some of the entry times look like tapered times from last year (New Albany's relay times). UA has 1 diver and Cville has 2 that may add to their totals.

Looks like it should be a fun meet to watch. Can't wait to see what some of the swims are like. Also should be a nice set up to see what some of the swimmers are going to go at the SW Classic the following weekend.

On another note I heard a rumor that Travis Schieman broke his ankle. Can anyone confirm this? Like I said there is no fact behind that I just heard that it happened. If true that will hurt Centerville big time.

Despite the psych sheet times, I expect that this will be a meet between Cville, University, & SC with UA & StFrancis battling for 5th.

Who's Brian Clark?

According to swimmeet.com, Schieman and Clark have the top 50 free times for Centerville and Clark has the fastest 100 free time. It would appear this should have a negative impact on Centerville relay times at Ned Reeb.

How long are Schieman and Clark expected to be out?

Does anyone know who Ned Reeb was?

Is this an honest question? He was a very dedicated and hard working swim coach who loved the sport and the young people that participated. I bet if you check around you will find many people envolved in Ohio swimming who were touched and became envolved in swimming through Ned. Maybe folks need to be educated, does COSA put anything in the heat sheet about him? If not apparently they should!

In the past at least there has been information in the heat sheet. I believe that he coached in Newark and at Newark High School. My memory is that he died suddenly at a relatively young age leaving a wife a fairly young children behind. The meet is named for him to honor his work as a coach and his memory. Hopefully, they will put something in the heat sheet.

As to the loss of Clark and Schieman that will effect Cville although not as much as you might think. Clark was never entered in the meet... ergo my question as to who he was. According to Cville Schieman was to swim on the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay in addition to fly (#1) and breast (#4) so his loss will effect their point total at least in the individual events. As for the relays, presumably they will go slower but its not clear that will cost them team points.

Centerville will win handily whether they have Clark and Schieman or not. University will get second, and UA, St. Charles, and St. Francis will fight for third. New Albany will not be in the top 5.

Man, I love your confidence, come by the announcer desk and introduce yourself tomorrow so I can put a face with your bold predictions. Keep it up, it keeps these forums interesting. It will be much crazier than the psych sheet shows because of teams who entered with tapered times (Centerville) and those who entered in season times from this year (University). Who might have rested a day? Who is going to wear a race suit? Lots of fun and unpredictable results.

Team scores: Hunting Valley University (H) 314, Toledo St. Francis (T) 229, Upper Arlington 210, St. Charles 2081/2, Centerville 179, Cincinnati Sycamore 109, New Albany 107, Columbus Academy 101, Westerville Central (W) 99, Dublin Scioto (D) 86, Olentangy Liberty 76, Grove City 66, Mount Vernon (M) 56, Solon (S) 53, Hartley and Westerville South 46, Dublin Jerome 40, Thomas Worthington 36, Mason 28, DeSales 271/2, Lancaster 27, Worthington Kilbourne 25, Pickerington North 24, Bloom-Carroll 20, Hilliard Davidson 18, Dublin Coffman and Garfield Heights 15, Mayfield 14, Avon Lake 13, Gates Mills Gilmour 12, Macedonia Nordonia and Granville 6, Dover 3, Gahanna and Bellbrook 2.

Wow what happened to Centerville? Certainly Clark and Schieman's absence doesn't account for that much underperformance.

The meet scores based on the psych sheet:
1. Centerville 326
2. University 244
3. Upper Arlington 232
4. St Francis 219
5. New Albany 179
6. St Charles 154
7. Sycamore 96
8. Col. DeSales 81
9. Dublin Scioto 66
10. Olent. Liberty 64

Actual scores:
1. University 314 (+70)
2. Toledo St. Francis 229 (+10)
3. Upper Arlington 210 (-22)
4. St Charles 208.5 (+54.5)
5. Centerville 179 (-147)
6. Cincinnati Sycamore 109 (+13)
7. New Albany 107 (-72)
8. Columbus Academy 101
9. Westerville Central 99
10. Dublin Scioto 86 (+20)

Guess that's why they swim the meets!

Cville medley which would likely have finished in the top 5 was DQed in prelims, so that accounts for at least 30 points. The loss of Schieman probably accounted for another 35 or more. And as preeder pointed out the psych sheet was based on tapered times for Cville. So I'm not sure its fair to say that they underperformed. That said, University swam impressively as did StF. It looked like as a team only University and UA suited up. This was the best Ned Reeb that I've seen. Numerous meet records were set and it was far and away the deepest field EVER! Not only was the boys meet competitive, but so was the girls. UA won but they didn't overwhelm as they have in the past. Mason was impressive for second with Cville edging Watterson for 3rd.

They announced that next years meet will move back to December. That's great if they can continue to draw teams like Cville and StF. However, I suspect that will not happen because Cville club swimmers will not be available and usually StF has their own invite on that week end.

This was the plan before the meet, but COSA will look at the results, the teams that came and the availability of OSU before making a final decision regarding next season's schedule. OSU's schedule may be the determining factor here. Their Jan/Feb 2011 availability is filling up. I am sure that Frank Croft (croft.3@osu.edu (office email)) would welcome coaches input regarding their feelings about the meet and their scheduling preference for next HS season.

This was a very competitive meet by including St. Francis and Centerville. I think the final total was 7 meet records with Andrew Malone from University and Margo Geer from Fairbanks winning the High Points. I thought that Nicholas Crane's 1:53.94 IM was the most impressive swim of the night.
