I was in SF for work two weeks ago. The place is beautiful. 65 and sunny every day with zero humidity. Hung out near SF University and Golden Gate Park more than I had in the past. Great neighborhoods with great amenities (restaurants). I talked to several Midwest transplants and they said the politics are simply noise to them and the benefits still outweigh the issues.I actually favor San Francisco. It really is an amazing place. The natural beauty of the setting, the whole Bay Area, is incredible. It’s a real shame what the city’s become due to the misguided politics.

Chicago appeared to be a great city to visit during the Spring and Summer. HOWEVER, I never had that opportunity, since I was stationed there for boot camp during that summer. And Radar School during the winter months through early May, when I was preparing to graduate from Navy Radar School at Great Lakes, Ill. I LUUUV old cities to visit. However, most of the ones in my home state were burned to the ground back in the day, by Billy the pyromaniac Sherman. In your opinion, for any reason, what is the most interesting large city in the Canada/Mexico/USA land mass? NYC? LA? Chicago? SF? Vancouver? Toronto? Montreal? Mexico City? Somewhere else?
Were any of those people you talked to, related to Nancy Legosi? Because CRIME is RAMPANT, and the feces/drug use on the streets/and tent cities ARE a tad annoying, from what I hear.I was in SF for work two weeks ago. How did you manage to partake of that world class dining, through your N95 Mask, unless you were dining with Gavin Newsome? We're partial to Los Angeles. World class food and entertainment. From just about anywhere LA it's 30 minutes or so to the beaches, the mountains, and the desert. Good looking people of all makes and models. The weather. Well behaved dogs everywhere! Stuff like that.
I concur. And NOW, with the transportation provided from your 1-2hour parking spot. It isn't nearly as much hassle to get to and from the parking area, to the dining/courtyards, in the vicinity of the docks.Savanah GA
Really awesome historical district, great food, and fantastic beaches.

If you swim in the waters off SOCAL beaches. You're taking your health into your own hands. There was a segment on '60 Minutes' recently, that stated that the waters off of SOCAL, are where Mexico empties it's sewage. We're partial to Los Angeles. World class food and entertainment. The RAINBOW COALITION perhaps?Who turned Mellow Mushroom into a parking lot?
The language wouldn't be the deal breaker! THAT would be the DRUG LORDS who run the country. Course, you need a passport going TO Mexico. Coming back, NOT so much. But with all the drugs you could smuggle in, the vacation would be FREE of charge!Visiting the different boroughs of NYC is cool. The big cities in Texas right now is an interesting blend of culture with all the people moving there
I've not been to Mexico. Would visit in a heartbeat if I knew Spanish
I've always wanted to visit NYC on my bucket list. But I'd be a tad apprehensive, venturing into areas where I wasn't welcome. From what I've been able to deduce, that FIRST mistake COULD be a KILLER!Visiting the different boroughs of NYC is cool. I think it was IBM. Maybe they're the same. You're claiming to be from Ga and you don't know Mellow Mushroom? The RAINBOW COALITION perhaps?

they come for the football, then stay for the questions threadWas hopeful a new poster just here to promote the Ga-Massillon game. Early posts were more funny than mean. Now I'm thinking an alt-ID maga tool.
...and the second you pass over into Hull you can say goodbye to English as you are in Quebec. Not an English word to be found anywhere. We hit a few parties along the canal. Had tea with the Governess General (Queen's rep). It was the first opening of their terrfic Museum of Civilization, good timing on our part. Lots of parades, fire works. Saw Mikhail Gorbachev.
lol, it was Canada Days, we were fortunate on the timing, having no idea even why we were visiting Ottawa except it was between where we were and where we were headed to go camping. Got lucky and found a cheap B&B near the ByWard Market. Ottaw is like all the good parts of DC without the hastles. All museums, British looking buildings, great cafes.. Hull, across the river where the new museum is was just a few parks, some sleazy neighborhoods and strip bars. Looks all built up now.
The only criticism I have with comments of this type is some longer perspective. New York is "dirtier than ever"? Were you in NYC in the early 70's? I was. Times Square was VERY scary....and very dirty. Ever watch "The Deuce" on HBO...a pretty accurate portrayal of NYC during that era...My son lives in NYC, in Manhattan. He started with summers there 10-12 years ago. In that brief time, I think the City has gone downhill. There are now more empty storefronts than ever, due in part to Covid. The streets are dirtier than ever, the homeless numbers are out of control and crime has increased. The leadership of the City has let it all get out of hand.
Prior to NYC, my son was in DC. I still miss it and prefer it to NYC. There used to be decent hotel deals there on the weekends when there aren't people filling up the rooms for government business.
Toronto has to be near the top of any list.
Agreed. My comments as you will note were to 10 to 12 year perspective. The only criticism I have with comments of this type is some longer perspective. New York is "dirtier than ever"? Murders...2262 in NYC in 1990...433 in 2022, which was down 11% from 2021. In other words, LESS than 20% of the amount of murders in 2022 as opposed to 30 years ago. Other major crimes up in '22 from '21 but, overall, I'm not trying to suggest the crime rate is a non-problem (it's definitely a problem), but some perspective...
Big fan of Toronto...though it's been awhile...
We were in Queretaro, Mexico (about 90 minutes north of Mexico City) in early '22...very impressive, major city, with lots of old Spanish architecture.
Ever?Everyone I know who has been to San Francisco absolutely hated it.
MOST US cities, ATL, Dallas, San Francicko, LA, Chi Town, Philly, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, DEEtroit, Cleveland, Cinncy, et al., are run into the ground by Left Wing whackados. If anyone needs to visit some U.S. cities it’s this guy.
HOW is Giuliani different today, than 99% of the Dumbokrat Partee of today? If JFK were alive today, he'd be a REPUBLICAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Never felt unsafe in NYC/Manhattan when I lived there in the 90s- would even take the subway home after bars closed. Definitely don’t feel that way now- plus it’s so crazy expensive. Drastic change in the city when Giuliani took control- for all his faults now, he was an outstanding mayor who got done back in the day and cleaned it up
Not to hijack this thread but. Speaking of San Antonio, can you believe that Augusta, Ga., COULD have had that SA vibe as well? Had it not been for the ongoing political divide? There were apparently funds available, to build a new B Ball arena, or to revitalize the downtown area with a state-of-the-art minor league baseball stadium. (GIANTS affiliate), Plus development of the six-mile Augusta Canal, which flows through the city. The B Ball decision probably cost Augusta tens of millions of dollars in tourism monies per year. The building of both would not only have brought in tourism, but infused needed revenue into downtown Augusta, from residual tourism dollars for the shops and restaurants. Whereas the arena is utilized maybe a half dozen times or less, per year.Ever?
I know there are challenges currently. I’ve had some of the best times of my life in San Francisco. Went to Boz Scaggs’ bar around 1990 on a night that the ballerinas of Russia’s Kirov Ballet were rockin’ the dance floor. Memorable evening. A close buddy went there after college, lived in the Marina District. I’m also reminded of a comment my father made. Big world traveler…Dad: “If I saw San Francisco when I was 18, I would have never left.”
If you want to get a taste of 50’s California, I recommend San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach, Avila Beach. SLO has a great little downtown with excellent restaurants and a little bit of a San Antonio-ish River Walk. Great wineries around there as well.
JFK was a blue blood Yankee. Those people are all D’s these days.If JFK were alive today, he'd be a REPUBLICAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You’re right about them all being D’s.JFK was a blue blood Yankee. Those people are all D’s these days.
The only R Senator in New England is…Susan Collins!
How LARGE is LARGE? I consider 250,000 pretty large. And THAT would be SAVANNAH, GEORGIA. And it's the most haunted as well. At least three major motion pictures have been filmed there. 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil', 'Con rack', and 'FORREST, FORREST GUMP'!In your opinion, for any reason, what is the most interesting large city in the Canada/Mexico/USA land mass? NYC?
