"He'll never play there"
There is a freshman game scheduled for tomorrow. That doesn't always mean there will be one though.Does Mooney have a Freshmen team?

1969 I was there. Despite pro-football on television, Rayen was jammed with 11,000. Ursuline struck fast and in no time at all it was 16-0. Then Mooney really dominated the game but could muster one TD in the 3rd quarter. I think the Cardinals were driving for the tying score when time ran out. Final was Ursuline 16, Cardinal Mooney 8. That Irish team had only 1 loss (14-12 to Cleveland St. Joseph) and Mooney ended up at 4-6 with a very young team. Was that Bucci's only losing record? (I recall the Vindicator article that Mooney players openly wept in the locker room at the end of the game. That's how emotional THE game was for both schools.) Youngstown surely was a unique place for high school football. In my senior year THE game was played at Rayen on a Sunday afternoon. It was the first HS game televised live in Youngstown. They played at Rayen on a Sunday afternoon the next season also. At that time there were always huge crowds no matter where or when the game was played.

If you ever needed to know the difference between ursuline and Mooney. Here it is.
Roger Staubach was a Cincinnati Purcell great who very generously donated a stadium recently to his center city Alma Mater (now Purcell Marian). He was probably the best football player produced by the Cavaliers.golden dawn's avatar as he appeared in the 1968 YSU vs Pensacola Navy game program. The game was played at Rayen and Roger Staubach hit on 27 of 39 passes for 455 yards and 4 TDs in leading the Goshawks to a 58-38 win over the Guins. Mr. O'Neil was a starting DT in the game and IIRC he attempted to get near the QB on at least one occasion. There were far too many Ursuline grads on that YSU team from my perspective.
