MaxPreps for seeding

Bad idea. MaxPreps is notoriously incomplete / inaccurate even in sports like football that people care about. When it comes to soccer, it's a total joke.

If MaxPreps is going to be used to seed all the teams, it will be just like basketball in that regard. All that MaxPreps was/is is a vehicle for the mandatory score reporting, and it'll just plug & play the established RPI formula. The RPI formula is different than the MaxPreps power rankings, which are more of an "ELO-based" structure.

Totally agree.

Problem with maxpreps is it relies on the information entered, which is done by coaches. Most coaches do it. Some don't.

All coaches are required to report the score. This was used for boys and girls basketball last year and was not a problem.

State Polls yes. But not for tournament. Coaches vote there.
If gives lazy coaches an easy out though.

Id be curious how many lists are just copy and pasted.

Also it's nice to see some polls that don't just list the same teams as #1 year after year after year

Perfect? No. At least different though

I feel coaches know the teams a little better anyway. The rankings IMO, are based on record for max preps. Doesn't seem like SOS is really added in, even though they say they are.

Some coaches (e.g. those who pay attention to teams around them) know better. Others, as shown from prior years voting, don't give a crap or pay attention to anything. In those cases, they might as well just go with MaxPreps.

The OSSCA, which has conducted the state polls in the past, has chosen to use the MaxPreps power rankings -- as opposed to the traditional poll process.

I know it is only halfway point of soccer season but it is hard to trust MaxPreps rankings IMO. A good example for me would be last weekend when St. Ignatius beat the Natoinal ranked number 2 Trinity out of Louisville KY by score of 6-0 and Moeller beat Henry Clay KY who was ranked number 3 by score of 5-1. Something is skewed. Curious as to how 3 teams from KY were ranked so high or maybe how good Ohio soccer actually is.
