Colt Brennan, QB for Hawaii, was Leinert's backup at Mater Dei HS.

He's also a Heisman candidate. He won't get it, but if he does, that would make 3 Heisman winners out of Mater Dei. Imagine that, 2 players on the same HS team winning the Heisman.

And to think, De La Salle beat the team with Leinert and Brennan 42-0, 35-6(consumerman?) 31-28

WoW

I did not know that DLS smoked them that bad. I watched Brennan last night and this guy has an accurate gun. I believe he will do well in the NFL. My vote for the Heisman is the RB from Arkansas.

The 1998 game was a classic

The 1999 game was Matt Gutierrez third game as a starting QB. MD put 8 in the bix to stop DJ WIlliams and Gutierrez torched MD for 300 yards and 6 TD.

The 2000 game MD almost forced overtime. DLS led 21-0 in the 1st Q and 31-14 in the 4th Q but Leinart, who passed almost every down threw for a ton of yards and a makeable FG was shanked that would have put the game in overtime. Despite throwing almost every down, MD never once allowed a sack or was called for holding, something the DLS fans were complaining about. The game was played in LA.

The 2001 game was a complete mismatch, I have seen reports of the final being either 33-6 or 34-6.

The 1998 Mater Dei team upset national #2 LB Poly 33-26 in the SS final and vaulted to a final #2 ranking.

The 1999 Mater Dei team, despite two losses, tied previously unbeaten LB Poly in the SS final to be co-champ.
