League Touney

As the numbers keep on growing, I'm wondering how many Leagues in Ohio were actually having a girls only League/Conference tournament? I know our conference (GMC) doesn't officially recognize Girls wrestling yet (since not all the schools can field a "team") so we can't call it a League tournament. I'm not sure of the number, but I think it is over 1/2 of the AD's in the league have say they have a girls only "team". We are having a tournament, but just can't call it a League tourney although all 10 schools were invited to send girls to it.

The SBAAC is doing the same. I think they require 7 teams of 7 wrestlers or more to be official. We are only at 5 right now, so it will be called a "Showcase".

We are calling ours the Power 10 but can't recognize any of the champs as league/conference champions. Hopefully next year things will change. The girls have worked hard all year and deserve some recognition. I appreciate Middletown for at least putting something on for the girls!

Same here, Coach. Wilmington is hosting and will give out a team trophy and recognize the top 4 girls, but they will not have the league name on them. It is run just like any other tournament. Hoping to have the numbers to make it official next year.

The Lorain County Wrestling Coaches and Officials hosted a conference tournament for all its member schools to take part in. Top 4 in each weight were recognized as All-Conference and winning team got a plaque to display in their school as league champs.

Will continue and hopefully all members of our association take part (some teams declined to participate unfortunately) until it grows large enough that the actual conferences in our area recognize girls wrestling and add them.

The Chagrin Valley Conference (CVC) held its first girls only tournament. The guys wrestled on Friday and Saturday. The girls wrestled on one mat primarily during Saturday, which worked well. I thought it was nice to have them at the same location. Medals were given out like they do with the boys. The notice for the tournament happened a little later, so some teams were already locked in to another event. Hopefully there will be more numbers for next season.
