Jim Harbaugh suspended first 4 games

Oh, schadenfreude! A Michigan Man lied to NCAA investigators? No. Couldn't be.

I better never hear Jim Tressel's name come out of another skunkbear fan's mouth in the context of lying.

They will really miss their honorable Michigan Man against E Carolina, UNLV, Bowling Green, and Rutgers. Lol.

Versus Ohio St. men beating up opposing football playas after bowl games!

This seems to be shaping up to be a prime example of the NCAA enforcers likely dropping the hammer much harder for the lie/coverup than for the actual infraction committed. He's going to end up getting a steeper suspension (6+ games) in 2024 along with probably some off-season/recruiting restrictions as punishment for the "he just paid for some cheeseburgers" narrative.

A prime example of what I've concluded regarding NCAA infractions allegations.

Admit and be forthcoming to anything and everything of minor to moderate violations (stupid crap that odds are just about everyone is guilty of, as what's been alleged here), but throw up a uniform brick wall of denial whenever anything serious is alleged.

It appears that Jim felt the underlying violation (buying some recruits some hamburgers) was ridiculous, and, given the circumstances, was an example of the NCAA making a mountain out of a molehill. He seemed to treat their questioning with contempt. When you do that with an authority, you are basically begging them to exercise their authority.

I'm no defender of Harbaugh. I basically think he is a goof, but the NCAA gets its panties in a wad over this great burger scandal. Meanwhile, recruits are literally being bought and induced with NIL deals facilitated by schools and they have nothing to say about it. Their credibility is shot. They are too erratic in what they enforce harshly and what they dont enforce at all.

You certainly are a strange little man. I'm a pretty keen observer of CFB and Ohio St football - and I have no idea of what you are talking about. But, even if I did know something about it, it has nothing to do with the price of Harbaugh/NCAA tea in China.

Kind of surprised this has not been posted yet:

FYI, they host Texas week 2 next year.
So first UM self imposed 4 games. Then that went away, and now it is 3 games? When we were told that it wouldn't be until next year that they would be punished. Why is this so hard to follow?

And how unprofessional too that UM I believe has a gag order from the NCAA, but the NCAA can announce to the world that this "isn't about a cheeseburger".

Exactly. The NCAA has almost no credibility anyway, but particularly when they pull this crap. Some sweetie in a cubicle in the NCAA office is butt hurt because a coach didn't take them seriously, so he leaks to the media to prove his pettiness. It's ridiculous.

Someone needs to regulate collegiate athletics. I'm convinced the NCAA is not who should be doing it. It's become a bloated, tone deaf bureaucracy that lacks the self awareness of their own absurdity.

I used to have some respect for Jim Harbaugh. Kind of lost in all the news of college football starting was this very strange comment and opinion by Harbaugh recently. This is clearly a ploy by Harbaugh to just keep in good position for recruiting. He's fully on board with "revenue sharing" for college athletes. To show how little these guys even understand about their own industry, do you think Harbaugh even understands that Michigan football supports all the other sports at Michigan, both men's and women's? Michigan has 14 men's sports, 15 women's sports. I'd say Men's basketball is likely self supporting. But outside of that, you probably have 27 of the 29 programs who operate in the red. They spend more than they earn. It's not changing because Title IX is in place. You are NEVER going to see women's sports go away because they can't support themselves at the college and high school levels. So you can say what you want about the millions and billions "some" colleges get through TV, but that money goes fast, and that's just select conferences and schools. Do you think Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan get these cash windfalls? Nope.

The guy is off his rocker.

SHOW THEM THE MONEY

Harbaugh opened his weekly news conference, reading from handwritten notes on multiple pages for 5-plus minutes to share his opinion that student-athletes should share in the revenue generated in college athletics.

“The current status quo is unacceptable and won’t survive,” he said. “We capitalize on the talent, we should pay the talent for their contributions to the bottom line.”
