Because THOSE would have been your choices, had the committee not voted for a FOUR team playoff.

Bama knew their only chance at the playoff was beating Georgia. Next year the conference championships won’t mean as much.
Would Bama have won against UGA. If not, Bowers would have had some time to heal and it would be hard for me to bet against UGA.
Would the committee have left FSU at 3 or 4, knowing that Texas and Bama would be in anyway?
Then again, the offensive ability of Washington, and the defensive ability of ttun might have gotten us to the same final 2.
Will the added number of playoff games cause player opt outs in those? If players are opting out of playing one extra game, will more opt out due to playing 3 or 4 extra games?

As far as tOSU, Day hasn’t proven he can win one big game, let alone 3 or 4 in a row. And it could be 6 in a row if they play ttun, then ttun in the BIG championship, then the CFP.

Washington
Going into the semifinal I told my ttun friends I wasn’t worried about the ttun D against Bama, just wondered if ttun could score enough. For the championship I feel the opposite. I think ttun will score, but can they hold down Washington? I’m really looking forward to the matchup.

I firmly stand by my initial thoughts when the playoff 4 were announced.
I thought the 4 best were (in no order) - (Georgia, Washington, Michigan) - for sure. Then I would have put in Bama. They won the SEC (best conference in the country). - They beat Georgia , probably the best team in the country.
Texas' resume:
week 2- beat a Bama team with QB undecided yet, very early in the year.
week 6 - lost to Oklahoma - worst loss of any playoff team.
week 7 - beat Houston by 7
week 9- beat Kansas St. by 3 in OT
week 10 - beat TCU by 3
week 11 - beat Iowa St. by 10

Played in a horrible conference compared to the SEC.
VERY unimpressive. Georgia belonged, Texas did not. (IMHO).

Agree. It will be entertaining. When Penix is on, its fun to watch.

Alabama’s resume
Week 2 LOST to TEXAS … I repeat LOST
Week 3 beat South Florida 17-3 … 3-3 at half, 10-3 in the 4th quarter
Week 7 beat Texas A&M 26-20 … losing 17-10 at half time
Week 8 beat Arkansas 24-21 … Arkansas was 4-8 with only 1 win vs power 5 teams
Week 13 beat Auburn 27-24 on miracle play

So why did Alabama belong … when Texas beat them??? …. Doesn’t winning on the field matter? … if not just put Georgia in the National championship game … because they are clearly better than both Michigan & Washington… hell, don’t even play the game just name them National Champions !!!!

PS … Big 12 was 3-1 vs SEC this year.

So many were saying that Bama couldn’t be ranked ahead of Texas because of that one game. I’m glad they didn’t put two SEC teams in, just like I didn‘t think they should have had two BIGs last year. Next year we’ll probably debate about who should have the byes lol.
UGA probably is the best team this year. Next year they could have still proven it. I just don’t like teams having to beat someone twice.

Actually the conference champs get the byes. Won’t be any debate. Someone earlier said the conference title games won’t matter anymore. Actually they will mean more. Also think of it like March Madness and a bid stealer. This years Big 10 title game is a perfect example. No way Iowa would make the playoff, but if they would upset Michigan they would get in under the new format and get a bye on top of that

The Bama win over Georgia as well as winning the SEC, trumps ANYTHING that Texas did. ANYTHING. (IMHO).

But I'll bet you were ok with 2 Big10 teams last year even though the suckeyes got trucked by MICHIGAN in columbus by 22 the last week of the season. That was pathetic.

For now.
Which conference champs? The PAC 2? Does this mean the MAC could end up having one of the six highest ranked conference champions and get in?
This is what I read.
The new 12-team College Football Playoff field will include the six highest-ranked conference champions, which will receive automatic bids. The top four teams will receive a first-round bye to the quarterfinals.
I’m sure they didn’t anticipate the realignments when they set the rules. The rules will probably change some more. I don’t really like the playoffs, but more college football is OK. I just hope the games end up being good.

You as well. Especially on an Ohio thread where as a Michigan fan, I'm a villain. Lol!
Like I told my ttun fan relatives and friends “Every family has some misguided people”. But I’d rather have them as ttun fans than not have them as family or friends. Quality of the person is far more important than who they cheer for.

This has been updated. It’s the 5 highest ranked conference champs.

Just a fan here. I do not go into a state of depression if "my team" loses are talk a bunch of $chit if they win. Grew up in an Irish Catholic Notre Dame loving household but being an Ohio guy OSU is the default team.

Come bowl season and national championship I'm pulling for the B10. Was a big fan of MSU under Dantonio and Wisconsin under Alvarez and Bielema. I have always respected what Ferentz has done at Iowa and what Fitzgerald did at Northwestern.

Beyond the B10 it comes down to coaches and players. For instance, I'm a big fan of Kalen DeBoer. He is a great coach.

With that said, I really want Michigan to pull this off.

Who are the 5 highest ranked conferences right now? Should the Big 12 still be considered a power 5 conference? With their two flagship programs moving out the overall league has been downgraded. The PAC is no more. With some teams in the ACC seeking to bolt, would they still be a power conference? Play-offs criteria needs updated again. 8 team playoff makes much more sense. Top 8 teams with no automatic tie ins.

The Bama win over Georgia as well as winning the SEC, trumps ANYTHING that Texas did. ANYTHING. (IMHO).
So Texas beating Alabama means nothing … at Alabama!!!! … I really can’t understand that the notion of a team beating the other team means NOTHING to guys like you … why play the games … just give Georgia the NC … because you think they are the best …that was done for years in polls … winning on the field means more to me than the eye test ... if teams end up with same record … head to head has to matter … Texas beating Alabama at Alabama Trump ANYTHING Alabama did … IMHO

Actually it means a little. But week 2 games, teams are still piecing things together and figuring things out.
And as far as why play the games, same thing can be said then last year. Michigan goes into columbus and waxes the suckeyes by 22. But yet they get in. And that was week 12, not week 2. AT HOME!! BY 22. Why play the games?

All I'm saying is that (IMHO), Georgia is 1 of the best 4 teams in the country. I also believe that Bama winning the best conference in the country and beating 1 of the the top 4 in the country in the last game, not week 2, trumps what Texas did. Georgia was ranked #1 for 90% of the year.
