A few years back in Texas a team forfeited a state title because there was a grade issue with one player on the roster. The player didn't play in the game but he was on the roster so the team forfeited the championship.
On a related note, I'm surprised that Miami Northwestern is keeping their 2006 state title. Their star player should have been inelligible. There was a massive cover-up. The principal was indicted on two felony counts of "official misconduct" and the entire coaching staff was fired this summer. YET . . . they keep the title. I have nothing against the kids and I wish them the best but I'd think this incident would tarnish the title and leave a sour taste in the mouths of the kids who won it. It seem to me the honorable thing to do would be to give it to the runner-up. Am I wrong?
