GWOC

I missed where somebody said they overachieved. Maybe they just achieved.
The initial post said that the sum of their parts was greater than each individual because the poster assumed, incorrectly, that players were now transferring down.

I agree, they achieved. I just don't think given that amount of talent, they overachieved or the sum was greater than the parts. The parts were pretty loaded.

Joe Thomasson went junior college then to Wright State University. Been anyone sense?
A few:
Dajuan Anderson
AJ Braun
Amari Davis (portal)
Anthony Johnson
Jack Hedricks

Players they have recruited from the area and did not land:
Mason Shrout
Tom House (portal)
Jacob Conner (portal)
Brady Conner
Darius Quisenberry
Amare Gordon

With the exception of Gordon none of these kids went to a power 5 school. Jacob Conner is back playing at UD. Look at Quisenberry and Shrout, both are playing/played in the horizon league.

Tom House averaged 18.5 min/gm and 7 pts./gm this season at Furman, a team that won 20+ games. Solid D1 numbers...

GMC players although not Dayton area they are close by
-Logan Woods (FF)
-Andrea Holden (Hamilton)
-Ben Southerland (Sycamore) Southerland was acquired through portal and I do believe is already exiting after just 1 season

and he would probably do the same at wsu. The southern conference is not much better than the horizon.

Holden was a great find late in the last recruiting cycle. He had signed with D2 Tiffin, but blew up after a monster tournament for Hamilton and he found a way to get out of his LOI and sign with Wright State. Played well off the bench for Wright State as a freshman and is a big time athlete on the wing.

With Cupps going to OSU and Powell headed to North Carolina, don't think this post aged very well.

In fact, the year Cupps and Powell played together, I think the better questions is how did they lose in state Semi finals.

Cupps (Ohio State)
Powell (North Carolina)
Colin O Connor (Stonybrook)
Emmanuel Deng (Penn - football)
Dulguun Gankyuhag (UTRV)
Reggie Powers (Oklahoma State - football)
Ethan Greenberg (Air Force Academy)
Eli Greenberg (Le Moyne)
Bobacarr Njie (UTSA)

That is seven division 1 basketball players and 2 D1 football players on one roster.
Devin Royal was a man amongst boys that night

The comment was made in jest. Who in their right mind would think Wright State could pay what UNC pays? Not many schools could do that. WSU historically, has never even got 4-star players rarely 3-star players. However, it appears they could do a better job of getting 2-star and below players, starting with the Dayton area. That was the implication of the comment.
Do they really even try to recruit local? We have seen kids go to Youngstown, Cleveland St, EKU and NKU all from this area and most of them Wright State either didn’t reach out or does the bare minimum

Has Eric Trent ever been a head coach?
Did anyone with head coaching experience apply?
This is starting to be the norm hiring coaches with little to no head coaching experience. There are a lot of experienced guy/gals who have got out of coaching for numerous of reasons. However there are a lot more seasoned coaches who constantly get overlooked or seemingly get put in a box!!!!!!!

I think it depends. Places almost always retread coaches, regardless of prior success or lack of success, if they can.

Usually it is somebody that was already on staff at a given school or someone with a prior connection if it’s someone that genuinely does not have prior head coaching experience.

Everyone needs their first head coaching job so for all we know Eric Trent will do great! From this hire we do know that no one with a lot of head coaching experience applied, unless Eric Trent is a teacher at Fairmont?

I think he is a janitor or he was. If you like the direction the program is going why not promote from within? Plus I don't think the AD at Fairmont is one to go the extra mile or two to secure a coach with a lot of options. Fun fact his grandpa's name is on the gym.

Was wonder the politics as well.......

Hopefully he learned a lot of Blair Albright , as Blair was a very successful head coach.
