I repeat, or let me clarify, Wright State historically, has done a bad job of recruiting the Dayton area. IDC How many coaches they have or associate Head coachesIt is a group of 6 full time coaches. I am sure they are trying to be good. Having two associate head coaches is unusual.

Holden was a great find late in the last recruiting cycle. He had signed with D2 Tiffin, but blew up after a monster tournament for Hamilton and he found a way to get out of his LOI and sign with Wright State. Played well off the bench for Wright State as a freshman and is a big time athlete on the wing.
Mark Alstork played at Thurgood with Joe transferred in from Ball State for 1 year so did Dajuan Anderson and Amari Davis transferred in but left after 1-year.

Do they really even try to recruit local? We have seen kids go to Youngstown, Cleveland St, EKU and NKU all from this area and most of them Wright State either didn’t reach out or does the bare minimum

This is starting to be the norm hiring coaches with little to no head coaching experience. There are a lot of experienced guy/gals who have got out of coaching for numerous of reasons. However there are a lot more seasoned coaches who constantly get overlooked or seemingly get put in a box!!!!!!!
I think it depends. Places almost always retread coaches, regardless of prior success or lack of success, if they can.
Everyone needs their first head coaching job so for all we know Eric Trent will do great! From this hire we do know that no one with a lot of head coaching experience applied, unless Eric Trent is a teacher at Fairmont?
I think he is a janitor or he was. If you like the direction the program is going why not promote from within? Plus I don't think the AD at Fairmont is one to go the extra mile or two to secure a coach with a lot of options. Fun fact his grandpa's name is on the gym.

I would have figured this job would get a lot of interest. Huge school with great facilities. Pretty solid track record of performance in recent years.

I think they wanted Cogan. I can see why Cogan doesn't want to go back to Fairmont. High expectations since he won state on the girls side. He is already in the hall of fame there as well.
Has his record at Carol as a boys coach really justified a step up in competition?
If you take out his GCL/Tournament record and only count the games vs. Stebbins, Valley View, Ponitz, Kenton Ridge, etc; then yeah he has a great record!
