Or it might just propel them. I've always said you need an adjustment before going into the tourney. This could be it. You never know.Centerville losing to Springboro speaks volumes going into the tournament. I'm not sure the ELKS get to the Regional Final and certainly don't think they have the horses to make it back to the State Tournament for the 4th year in a row.
Again, name me the last Centerville PG with Big10 talent that was the program leader Cupps was at Centerville.Once in a generation point guards transition much better to college basketball. Love his intangibles, but once in a generation is a bit over thetop.

Cupps is a generational leader. I will give him that. He was connected to his dad at the hip and having House and Powell on the perimeter did not hurt either. His game has transitioned to the college game well. He will be a 3 1/2 year starter that when its time for him to go, Assembly Hall will give him a standing ovation. Unfortunately his game likely will not transfer to the pros well. But I could be wrong. I foresee him having a great college career, play oversees for a few and come back to the US and become a dynamic young college coach. Generational talents are NBA guys these day that are Super athletic or can shoot from half court. His talent is his BBall IQ and right now that terrible game of Pro basketball just does not reflect that like it did years ago. Wish him the best. It's clear the Elks miss him.Indiana struggles, but he's playing over 20 minutes a game. Rare for a freshman PG anywhere.
To compare, we can check out how much the top 7 Ohio 247 recruits from last year are playing.
Devin Royal - 8.5 minutes at OSU
Dailyn Swain - 19 minutes at X
Gabe Cupps - 21.7 minutes at IU
George Washington III - 7 minutes at Michigan
Austin Parks - 2 minutes at OSU
Lawrent Rice - 2.8 minutes at Murray State
Marlon Barnes - Has not played at Pitt.
I just watched the clips. Wayne struggled handling the ball pressure Trotwood put on them in the 4th quarter. To much fancy dribbling then plop, turnover... Make a move then get to the basket and try to score or dish. Don't quite understand what the coach was thinking by having all that dribbling going on then turn it over. Kudos to Trotwood. They look like a complete team. Long, athletic, defended well and that big boy was a man amongst boys the other night. Can he do that vs someone his size? If so Trotwood might be back in Columbus, well Dayton.... That sounds so goofy. The state Championship should be in Columbus!!!!! Exit stage left from this thread because T-wood is not in the GWOC. So dumb. Best of luck to both squads in postseason play.Wayne definitely was playing not to lose in the 4th. Can imagine they went the last 5 minutes of the game without putting up one shot. (not counting the shot at the buzzer). Numerous turnovers.... traveling, carrying the ball, throwing the ball over the kids head, or just getting it stolen..... Trotwood ampt up the pressure and it got to Wayne. The 6'8" kid for the RAMS was unstoppable inside. Wayne does not have size and often the 5'10" kid was on him under the basket. He did a heck of a job giving up a foot but when the refs were letting them play physical inside it was no contest. They crashed the boards and kept it alive until the 6'8" kid gathered it up and put it back in.
Wayne was up big and was looking to pull away but just couldn't get it done.....
I wouldn't pencil him in as a starter the next three years just yet. Woodson is on the hot seat and I hear they have higher level guards already set to join them next year, not to mention the transfer portal. Gabe was a great high school player who probably went to a school he loved versus a school that fit him better. And, given today's college environment, that may be where he finishes.Cupps is a generational leader. I will give him that. Ahh. I disagree. I think Indiana will find a place for him for three years. That place loves kids like him. Scrappy, heady, tough, all the way back to Isiah. But hey we can say the transfer portal about anybody these days so you never know. Again it's my op. I wish him the best of luck.I wouldn't pencil him in as a starter the next three years just yet. First off I wish him luck too. And I'm not even saying he won't start but with all that's going on over there, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't finish up there either. Finding a spot is a far cry from a three and a half year starter.Ahh. I disagree. I think Indiana will find a place for him for three years. That place loves kids like him. I feel ya. Its cool.. I am just saying I watched t5 or 6 games this year and every time he dove on the floor or made a good pass or got emotional the crowd loved that stuff. The game has change but somethings stay the same. Politics and his talent, because he is talented, may play a role in him being the poster boy for that program for a few years. Remember it's still Indiana. Home of the Hoosiers. That's all I am saying. Good dialogue.First off I wish him luck too. Looks like the portal will have a few Ohio kids. Most of these guys were Mid-Major guys anyway based on skill set alone maybe they'll end up somewhere that's the right fit for them this time around.Indiana struggles, but he's playing over 20 minutes a game. Rare for a freshman PG anywhere.

Maybe not every freshman is ready for D1 right out of the chute and teams have better upperclassmen. That's no need to transfer but I get it depending on who's whispering in their ears.Looks like the portal will have a few Ohio kids. I agree but you imply it's bad if they do transfer? Why? Coaches leave all the time. If you aren't happy, find a better fit.Maybe not every freshman is ready for Di right out of the chute and teams have better upperclassmen. I believe some these guys are D1's just not Hi-Major or Hi/Mid Major guys they just need to go where they fit. Sometimes it takes a season to realize that you're not as good as you thought or a year away from your people telling you "you're great"!Maybe not every freshman is ready for Di right out of the chute and teams have better upperclassmen. I'm not sure what's wrong with trying at a top level program. It's not like the kid gave themselves the scholarship. People aren't just telling them they are great, a school offered them a $50,000 scholarship to reinforce that notion. Seems like you are implying the kids ego was the reason they went there. As if the school itself didn't actually think they were good enough.I believe some these guys are D1's just not Hi-Major or Hi/Mid Major guys they just need to go where they fit. Never mind, looks like overtime.Venturing a guess at the lack of Centerville posts, and the sudden radio silence of their twitter feed, that Wayne won?
This year, more than ever, will all depend on matchups. Fairmont might be Centerville’s kryptonite, but then they would get Middletown or Winton Woods in the district. If it’s Winton Woods, they don’t have anyone to guard McKinley. If it’s Middletown, the Middies are super long and athletic and tremendous defensively. Both are tough matchups for Fairmont, but not as much for Centerville. Wayne seems like they are hot, but their likely district matchup is Elder, who they played tough earlier but is a tough matchup. If Elder loses to Lakota West/Princeton winner, those are much better matchups for them. Which Beavercreek team shows up? If they get to districts, it will be Moeller, but I actually think their ability to move the ball and score matches up well against them! The district that is Cincy vs. Cincy could have any one of like 6 teams win it.Well, Fairmont knocks off Beavercreek and Centerville wins the GWOC. Unfortunately, the ELKS won't get very far in this year's tournament; lost their mojo late in the season. Fairmont could get to the Regional Final.
That's not how standings work. Congrats to the team. Winning the GWOC is an accomplishment. Are there any more games for teams before tournament? Centerville still has one on Monday against Huntington Prep.Congrats to Centerville officially winning the GWOC...
But WE ALL KNOW that it really ended in a 5 way tie!!!!!!
What a year.... best of luck to the GWOC teams in the tourney......
Wayne had Elder beat at Elder!! If both teams take care of business Wayne is pulling up to Xavier confident they will be playing past March 10. (District Finals??? I always get the rounds confused.) Beavercreek has good size, great athletes, and well coached. I think they can definitely beat Moeller. This year, more than ever, will all depend on matchups.
