GWOC 2023-2024

Now that the draw is over, last week of the regular season tips off tonight for the GWOC. Does anyone know if the GWOC does a tie breaker for the league champion? Or if there is a tie, do they ignore head to head and just crown co-champions?

No, they do shared titles even if one of the two teams tied has swept the season series.

Thanks. That's what I thought but wasn't sure. Centerville has to win one of their last two to clinch it. Beavercreek can still tie if they win both and Centerville loses both. And while I am glad there is still something to play for, that rule is dumb. No team should be co champs with a team they swept. I get it if there is a three way tie but the GWOC is down to two teams.

Centerville can clinch the outright title with a win tonight over Springboro. Otherwise, assuming Creek beats Springfield tonight, it will come down to the last games on Friday.

Shocking what Centerville looks like this season, the impact a once in a generation leader like Gabe Cupps has on a program is being shown

I don't know if I would say shocking. Like you said they lost a once in a generation player at the point. Don't forget they are also playing this season with one legit D1 player after having at least two or three the past 4 seasons. They still managed a 10-3 season in the league and beat Moeller.

Is it possible that the coach is checked out at Centerville? I know it's blasphemy to question their coach, but he looks, and in the papers, sounds like he would rather be watching IU basketball than coaching this team. Doesn't seem to connect at all with the players and when things aren't going well, he sits down, pouts and benches kids. I never saw that before from him, even before Gabe got there.

Don't disagree with you, but I think it is shocking how much they have come back to the pack in Dayton. Springboro is not very good compared to the last five years of good Dayton D1 teams. I am shocked Centerville took that big of a step backwards with the talent they supposedly have. I questioned a post after the St Ig game that said Centerville has five guys that will get their college paid for and got kind of roasted for it. If that is true, this is a hugely underperforming team

They are hugely underperforming. Factually, they have one D1 commit, another with division 1 offers, and two other kids garnering D1 interest. All four of them play on high level AAU teams (EYBL or 3SSB) and have for years. Those spots and offers aren't given away, they are earned.

Maybe they aren't as good as years past, but tell me what team in the GWOC, or anywhere in SWO, that has that much talent? Moeller, who they beat and that's it.

Once in a generation PG is an insane evaluation... The kid was good but this is a little over the top!!!

Njie will wind up being a D1 player... He'll probably head to a prep school after this year and pick up a D1 scholarship offer there. As for the other guys those dudes are average players.

Name me the last Centerville PG that had Big10 talent along with the intangibles/leadership of Cupps. Woodson talks about his maturity, leadership, etc that makes him invaluable. He is averaging 3 points and an assist but playing 21 minutes in the Big 10 because of the intangibles he brings to the program.

I agree on Njie. So is there another GWOC team that even has two D1 players? How many even have one - Northmont maybe. Also, odd take that one kid who actually has D1 offers won't get a D1 scholarship and is average.

Is the offer committable??? Not an odd take at all... You think they are under performing and I think they are just not as good as people made them out to be. Beavercreek, Northmont, Wayne all have guards that have D1 interest.

Putting it in these terms made it make sense to me... The "generational" part is throwing me off!!! When I hear generational I go to the extremes of talent and he is not that for me. Very good player though!!

Which one? He has three offers. I assume one would be "committable". He doesn't have the on line presence or status to warrant a non committable offer. Either way, that's two D1 players, that we agree on, and two D1 "interest" kids (even if one has offers). Compare that to those three schools with 1 kid with only interest (well, I think the northmont guard has an offer). Yet they are losing to those teams. Based on their talent, how is that not underperforming?

Maybe I was on to something as Alter loses to another GWOC team in the bottom half of the league last night.

Well if you watched the game or even looked at the stat line. That tells you all you need to know. Alter turned the ball over like crazy. And Nmont shut Greer down. It’s a very simple recipe pal, stop Greer and the offense is stagnant. Gotta give northmont credit, they were the aggressors all night. Looks like things may be starting to turn around up there in Clayton. Big wins over centerville and Wayne and now alter. That team has some talent. Glad your little birds got their crap together and beat Belmont last night!!

He is generational in terms of what comes through Centerville. They have had above average to great players, but Cupps' ability as a high school player was beyond what you normally see there and at a lot of schools.

This goes back to my original point. This is not a good thing for a ranked team come tournament time. If any team can shut Greer down they have a good chance of winning. Opponents only get better as a team advances. Good luck with Greenville.

I noticed Fairmont didn't back down in the draw and are in the Elks bracket. Good to see. They did beat them by the most of any in state team the Elks have played. Should be a good match up come March 2nd if they both win for a chance at Winton Woods on March 10th for the District title.

Can anyone give a summary of the Trotwood/Wayne game last night. Had to work. Heard it was a good one. Is Trotwood the Real deal? Can Cranford carry the Warriors in the playoffs?

Wayne vs Trotwood was a really good game. Wayne went up at least 10 at one point in the second half. Up 7 at the start of the 4th. It felt like they started playing not to lose in the 4th instead of playing to win. Trotwood started pressing to get back in the game. Wayne would break the press and instead of scoring and staying aggressive would attempt to run offense and eventually turn it over trying to run clock. They have two other kids averaging double figures on Wayne... I don't know if I would consider that "Carrying" LOL

Once in a generation point guards transition much better to college basketball. Love his intangibles, but once in a generation is a bit over thetop.

They also recently beat Winton Woods, the last time they played Wayne though they lost. The win over Wayne was early in the season.

Wayne definitely was playing not to lose in the 4th. Can imagine they went the last 5 minutes of the game without putting up one shot. (not counting the shot at the buzzer). Numerous turnovers.... traveling, carrying the ball, throwing the ball over the kids head, or just getting it stolen..... Trotwood ampt up the pressure and it got to Wayne. The 6'8" kid for the RAMS was unstoppable inside. Wayne does not have size and often the 5'10" kid was on him under the basket. He did a heck of a job giving up a foot but when the refs were letting them play physical inside it was no contest. They crashed the boards and kept it alive until the 6'8" kid gathered it up and put it back in.

Wayne was up big and was looking to pull away but just couldn't get it done.....
