Good analysis from what I saw and what I heard of the first two games (I happened to miss most of the dominant Wadsworth play... not that that's a bad thing
)... my impression from what I saw of the little bit of the end of the second game and the rest that some of Green's players were significantly affected by the atmosphere of the game. Credit the Grizzly faithful for having the place rockin'. Nice crowd and huge noise for an early season vb match. Wadsworth left the door open just a bit in the second game, let Green gain some momentum, and it was over from there. There were times it seemed Wadsworth was going to get back in it, but like Yahtzee said, one bad serve or a predictable set that was "roofed" back in Wadsworth's mug and Green was back in control. I honestly never doubted from the end of game 3 on that Green would win due to Wadsworth's youth and just how the two teams looked.
I gotta give credit to Wadsworth's new coach. From what I know of Wadsworth volleyball before, the energy and enthusiasm wasn't there. She had her team up and ready for this match and it almost was enough to carry them through to a win. My only criticism of her coaching for the match was as the match went on (and I'm sure as she got more frustrated), she spent far too much of her time (a vast majority actually) complaining to the officials on just about every call they made. I don't doubt that she had legitimate gripes on some of them as the officiating and line-judging (one line judge moreso than the other) wasn't up to par for the level of the match. That being said, when you have a young team and things are steamrolling against you at the speed that Green turned things around, you gotta ignore the calls and work your team back into the match. It's not easy and I myself have been caught up in griping many times (it's hard not to be), but it's one part of coaching that is a necessity especially with young teams.
All of that being said
, gotta say that was one of the more exciting and one of the best volleyball matches I've seen in awhile. Green should be thanking Wadsworth for giving them the wake-up call they needed. They hadn't played up to their potential in either of their first two matches, but started to look really good in this one late. Good luck to wadsworth as they continue through the SL. Here's to hoping the next match between these two will be for the league title
