Very Excited for the 23/24 GMC season. A lot was lost to graduation in this league so the land scape of it is much more open than it has been in years past.

Fairfield (22/23 results: 23-5 (15-1 GMC, 1st place), Regional Runner Up
Key Departures: G Deshawne Crim, G Ray Coney, C Amir Rogers
Key Returnees: G Kameron Sanders
New Players/Names to watch: C Gabe Clemmons, G Daviawne Crim, G Cashawn Ingram, G Mike Lewis
Outlook: Fairfield losses 3 all league players off of a 3-peat GMC championship team as well as back-2-back regional runner ups/city champions. The cupboard isn't empty though for Coach Wyrick. Kameron Sanders is a high volume scorer capable of being at the top of the league in scoring. Big man Gabe Clemmons has another year to develop as well as wide range of guards with abilities and talents. This team has everything it needs to still be at the top of the league standings and compete for a district title, but who steps up in the place Crim and Coney from last year will be key.

Princeton (22/23 results: 19-8 (11-5 GMC, T-2nd place), District Champion
Key Departures: G Kevin Adorno, G Riley Woods, G Jaiden Arnold
Key Returnees: G Cliff Cass, F Dorian Williams
New Players/Names to watch: F Brendan Braddix, G David Steel, C Kerian Granville
Outlook: The Vikings were one of the better teams in the GMC and in Cincinnati last year and they continue to improve under Coach Wyant each year. This team has the parts and pieces with guys like Cass to be at the top of the league when all is said and done. The new addition of Kerian Granville could be the big piece that puts the Vikings at the top in this league.

Sycamore (22/23 results: 17-7 (11-5 GMC, T-2nd place), 3rd round
Key Departures: G Des Bolden, G Bryce Darbyshire, G Charlie Hall, G Austin Southerland
Key Returnees: C Raleigh Burgess
New Players/Names to watch: F Samuel Imade, G Tariq Kimbrough, G Elijah Hill, F Giovanni Garrett
Outlook: The Aves had a devastating injury last year mid-season to star center Raleigh Burgess which really hindered their chances of making a deep post-season run. The Aves also lose their entire back-court from last years team. This isn't Coach Tim Austing's first rodeo though. Burgess is back in the middle and there's some athletic guys ready to step up. A guy like Kimbrough will need to step up and play a big role if the Aves want to compete in the top part of this league though.

Mason (22/23 results: 16-8 (9-7 GMC, 4th place), 3rd round
Key Departures: F Jack Ullom, F Ben Golan
Key Returnees: G Matt Debrosse, F Jake Hanley, G Ben Menker, G Alex Koeling
New Players/Name to watch: F Abib Abib
Outlook: The Comets had a solid year under new coach Adam Toohey during the 22/23 season. They return a nice group of players heading into the 23/24 season as well. Look for a guy like Ben Menker to have a really good year as well as the other key returnees. Filling the inside presence of their 2 losses will be key for the Comets to make a push at being near the top of the GMC this upcoming season and having a successful post-season run.

Lakota East (22/23 results: 11-13 (8-8 GMC, 5th place), 3rd round
Key Departures: G Julian Mitchell, G Lebron Powell
Key Returnees: G Trey Perry, F Derek Jackson, G Tyler Bachman
New Players/Name to watch: G Luke Adkins, F Bayze Wieland, C new player
Outlook: The Thunder Hawks under coach Clint Adkins have been a joy to watch over the years and last year was no exception, with a heartbreaking loss to Moeller in the sectional finals. Trey Perry I expect to lead the league in scoring and is one of the best guards in the city. If they can get enough help around him and coach has the defense on point, expect the Hawks to be in every game and to hand near the top of the GMC all season long.

Middletown (22/23 results: 12-11 (7-9 GMC, T-6th place), 2nd round
Key Departures: G Izaiah Day
Key Returnees: G Delamarr Blanton, G Michael Maldonado, G Jeremiah Landers, G Chandler Shields
New Players/Name to watch: C Isaac Stamper, F Ny'Jhere Araujo
Outlook: Coach Moss has exited and now former Middie great Bill Edwards Jr. takes the helm. I would say the Middies have as much talent as anyone in the league coming into this next season. Getting this group together and in sync will be the key. Athleticism, rim protection, and shooting are all there. Everyone knows the history of the Middies and if they're going to make it happen, this year is as a good of a chance as they'll have for a while in having some "Middie Magic".

Oak Hills (22/23 results: 10-13 (7-9 GMC, T-6th place), 1st round
Key Departures: G Jaxon Schreiber
Key Returnees: C Bobby Stidham, G Trenton Murphy, G Brycen Kessler, G Elias Wheeler
New Players/Name to watch: G Max Rhodes
Outlook: Coach Price returns a good deal from a competitive squad last season. Losing the PG Schreiber is a big loss but look for these guys to gel more together within coach Price's motion style offense. This team will play ball the way we're accustomed to Oak Hills playing and I think has what it takes to beat most teams in this league on any given night. Excited to see them throw it down to Stidham on the block and let's see the big boy work!

Lakota West (22/23 results: 8-16 (6-10 GMC, 8th place), 2nd round
Key Departures: G Nathan Dudukovich, F Jason Lavender, F Chris Barber
Key Returnees: G Bryson Curry, C Luka Gilbert
New Players/Name to watch: G Isaiah Meade-Moss, G Bryce Curry, F Lincoln Cosby, other freshman players
Outlook: Lots out the door for at one point was a very promising class of 22 that was supposed to be right near the top with the Indians that never really happened. The Firebirds decide to revamp the program with the hire of Coach Moss and expect to see a whole lot of new things out in West Chester. The additions of his son as well as star studded freshman Bryce Curry and Lincoln Cosby will make the Firebirds a very exciting watch this coming season. I don't expect these guys to be great every night but coach Moss will look to expedite that process. This team could be at the top of the league in near future.

Hamilton (22/23 results: 10-14 (5-11 GMC, 9th place), 2nd round
Key Departures: G Cooper Matthews, G Davis Avery
Key Returnees: C Andrea Holden, G Dre Tillery
New Players/Name to watch: G Clint Moak, F Demetrius Berry
Outlook: The Big Blue lose one of the better guards in the league from last season but do return the most exciting player in Andrea Holden. Hamilton has some great athletes in their rotation for next season so look for Coach Higgins to really pride the Blue on the defensive end. If this team can find a play maker and shoot it consistently from the outside, this team is one that could really improve their standing for the upcoming GMC season.

Colerain (22/23 results: 4-19 (1-15 GMC, 10th place), 1st round
Key Departures: G Gary Todd,
Key Returnees: G Corey Myrick, G Will Frey
New Players/Name to watch:
Outlook: Coach Kerr leaves for LM and the Cards turn to Coach Kostoff. The Cards are in a difficult spot because I still don't think they have the talent to compete in the league. Look for them to continue to battle and play hard as well as focusing on the younger levels to get the talent level up in the near future.

I look forward to hearing everyones thoughts and predictions on the upcoming league. If I missed anyone in terms of transferring in or out please mention those. Also there may be some guys that have stepped up this off season that weren't mentioned. I honestly don't know yet who will win it, so that's very exciting as a fan. I think POY will come down to Perry and Burgess.

I agree with much of your order. I'm not buying the Oak Hills hype, I think they will be similar to what they typically are.

I thought Kieran Granville was out with an ACL and will probably be unavailable for Princeton. Also, wasn't Ru Mills rumored to be transferring from Woodward to Princeton?

Yes, Granville had a brace on his leg. I'm not sure the whole time frame of "when" he'd be back playing. Mills stayed at Woodward I'm pretty sure. There's someone new though I think I'm missing that is now at Princeton.

He will be back around start of the season from what he told me, as of now Ru is still at Woodward but I think it is depending on if Coach Redden is staying at Woodward

Mike Lewis from Fairfield will be their x factor he has the capabilities to be their go to guy as well as Sanders they will be fun to watch
Interested to see Raleigh return and to see how is rebounds off the injury not being able to play this summer
Trey Perry is the best in the league and will be the next two years and East will go as far as he takes them
West is also intriguing with their young talent Lincoln and Curry can be a scary duo the next 4 years

In another thread it was rumored that Yamil Rondon from Cooper (KY) was going to Princeton, but news from this summer of him playing in Puerto Rico says he's still at Cooper.

3 schools in 3 years…
Yeah unfortunately he hasn't had the right fit, his attitude was an issue his freshman year and last year victim of a deep program with a freshman coming in that will be a big part of the team and other transfers the writing was on the wall for him

I think that would 100% be my same pecking order on the league rankings. Fairfield is absolutely the team to beat. Princeton is really talented. Sycamore has the best player. Lakota East, Mason, and Middletown could all be very good if the right players step up. Lakota West has young talent, but is unproven. Oak Hills is well-coached but doesn't have a ton of talent. Colerain, sigh.

I think 3rd is about right for my Aves. I still think they have a really high ceiling but in a different way. With Burgess and the four names you had to watch, that's the starting 5. It will be the best defensive starting 5 in the city by a wide margin. Garrett is an awesome defender and a D1 football prospect. Hill is very athletic and will also likely play football in college somewhere. Imade is long and rangy. Burgess is committed to Purdue largely because of his defensive ability and is 6-11. The question will be if Burgess can become more of the focal point of the offense and Kimbrough can turn into one of the star players in the league. If both of those are yes, they can pick-and-roll all night and keep the floor spread around it, and the offense will be really hard to stop as well. That would enable Sycamore to play methodical and to grind out a GCL-type slugfest night-after-night against good teams. They are going to be really hard to score on either way.

I assume Oak Hills is his home school district?

Saw Princeton and Wayne in a unofficial scrimmage. Princeton has good size and very physical. Wayne should be good with very good guard play at least what I saw. Looking forward to the season

Unofficial scrimmage going on now? That would be illegal...

open gyms are legal without any coaching presence such as calling plays
Yes I know a lot of schools do it... but technically I don't really think it's legal.

This is from the OHSAA website:

“Open Gyms” are defined in General Sports Regulation #10 and define them as “unstructured free play” provided the activity is supervised. The basic premise is that facilities can be made available for athletes to ‘play their sport’ in a manner in which: - Team play occurs – there is no instruction, no drills conducted, no organized/structured skill work - Scores are not kept on scoreboards or any posted mechanisms - Teams are not selected ahead of time and posted, - The games are not a mechanism to disguise a practice, scrimmage or contest with another school, - Attendance cannot be mandatory - Attendance cannot be a prerequisite for team selection

Rock07… great analysis of the GMC!

I hate to even put a transfer on here because I don’t want anyone to think I am putting down this post… I mean that in all sincerity!

Guard, Delamarr Blanton from Middletown transferred out of Middletown. He transferred into Middletown last year from Trotwood, not sure where he transferred to. Assuming back to Trotwood, but have no idea.

He is a solid guard, and will be missed, but Middletown is guard heavy as it is. Next guy up mentality.

Again, great preview of the GMC Rock07!

Was the Taft transfer, Granville, there for Princeton? Couldn't miss him, 6'8'' 230ish

Princeton has 3 players they was counting on this year with Torn ACL . Would not be surprised if they struggle

Really appreciate that! I really enjoy the analysis part of it. No worries on pointing out Blanton. I did this back in July so I knew there would be some changes that would need discussed and such so thanks on that.

Some other names I think will be contributors for their teams I want to throw out.
Mason King F- Fairfield
Nate Riep F- Oak Hills
Ty Smyers- G Lakota East
