I enjoy the new freedom Coach Adkins has given East in how they play at a much faster pace. Having said that, they better start playing D without fouling so much. I understand they are deep, but in games that are close or in the tournament it will cost them. You cant put good teams at the foul line repeatedly. Princeton is in the same boat as far as fouling is concerned.
Having said all that, Flemming from LaSalle made a career out of "the refs cant call them all" lol. Im looking forward to a few games tonight.

I've been in Cincinnati since 2010. I've seen a Mason team that had a starting point guard that couldn't dribble. This team is not worse than that.
I know which Mason team you are referring to. They still went 5-9 in GMC play. Trust me, this year’s team is worse.

Adkins is going with the Fleming-model of defense. All of that pressure doesn’t do anything if they can’t sit down and play man-to-man in the half court. Just like Lasalle would do in a big GCL game, I can see East easing off the pressure slightly against a team that can handle it. Against anybody else, it’s full go and let’s him run their opponent off the court while also getting his excellent depth playing time.

My current GMC rankings

East
Fairfield

East and Fairfield are head and shoulders above the rest. We can argue who is 1 or 2, I take East. We will eventually see on the court.

Sycamore
Princeton

Sycamore and Princeton in the next tier. Sycamore will have their chance to show what they really can do tonight. Princeton has a star and some decent talent in their starting 5, but their depth after that keeps them from moving higher.

West
Mason
Hamilton
Middletown

After that I believe Mason and West are the top 2 of this group. Hamilton still needs to prove their worth, and they will get it tonight. Middletown moves themselves out of the bottom group with the win over Mason, BUT after hearing it was a depleted Mason they still have work to do to show they deserve to be in this group, let alone move further up in it.

Oak Hills
Colerain

Oak Hills is just completely lacking talent. After seeing what I saw last week I'm not sure coaching can pull them much further up than 8th in the conference this year. Colerain could find their win against this team.

There’s a lot of people talking about Meadows transferring into East. Nobody knows about the other good transfer from Fairfield (Julian Mitchell). Kind of built like Darius Bazley was in high school and is an absolute scorer. Saw him on the AAU circuit playing for Midwest Basketball Club Gold Team (16U) where he was a stud
From what I've seen so far of both of them, Mitchell is a nice addition, Meadows seems pretty average. Not sure what all the hype was with him at Colerain, I don't see it.

I ended up not going to the game so I'm curious to know how it all went down. East shot horribly, 33 from the field and 30 from 3. Coles will just 4pts. Sycamore shot 30 free throws! So apparently the fouling is a pretty big issue for East. Sycamore moves into the top group of 3 now. The rest of my list stays basically the same.

Sycamore was better last night. They handled the full court pressure. East didn't shoot it very well but give some credit Sycamore. Their length will give many teams problems. Charlie Hall of Sycamore is fantastic. Does it all and he's a hard nosed team guy.
Top 3 still FF, Sycamore, and East.
Good win for West.

Question for any Hamilton fans, what were the expectations with this year's team? 0-6 after today and Tuesday, fortunately Oak Hills next Friday for victory #1.

East couldn't hit the side of the barn last night. Best offensive team in pretty much all categories couldn't make layups. 20-60 from the field????

I did notice Adkins has this line changing philosophy with his subbing and I believe that hurt him last night. Starters were pulled after being down 2-10, second team got it to 8-12 then the starters came back in and went on a 12-0 run. Felt like his message sent to the starters worked then he took them back out. It was a weird flow, guys never seemed to get any rhythm. Sycamore played with a lot of energy and toughness last night and they deserved the win but I put this one on coaching. I have the utmost respect for Adkins, he's one of the best in our area but last night I think he underestimated Sycamore and maybe overcoached. He thought he would wear them down with the depth and it actually hurt the top guys rhythm Peck and Coles shot 4-17 from the field as they played with different guys throughout the night of which some took really bad shots, 0-1 pass possessions, bad turnovers, bad defensive assignments.

2 huge things I have noticed over the season so far for East 1. the Kronague kid is a bit of a ball hog, he hunts for his shot way too much and it showed how it can hurt them and could continue to hurt them against good teams if the leaders don't reign him in and if Adkins doesn't tell him to stop shooting 3s on 3 on 1 fast breaks with guys wide open running the lanes to get the for sure bucket, his shot selection is really bad and he looks oddly aggressive when times it looks like they have a nice groove going offensively, I've seen too many times this season this kid shooting 25 foot 3s, step back 3s, fast break 3s definitely doesn't look like he's playing selfless basketball to observers. 2. Adkins kid production right now is simply just to run around out there. He is not giving them any production just yet, with their depth bring up Powell or Mitchell and see if that can help on production with the top group.

East will be fine, the sky isnt falling it's a bad loss for sure kind of reminds me of the Ross loss early last year. East played flat, shot horribly and let the other team hang around and gain confidence, that's usually a recipe for disaster and it showed last night. I believe they will wake up and get it together, I'd hate to be Mason and West next week.

FYI-At least 10 of the Sycamore FT's came in the last 1-2 minutes when East was in desperation mode.

Very nice analysis.

When you bring in several transfers you have to play a style that will get everyone playing time, including the kids that were already at East.

Apparently you do... because Adkins is doing it.
One has nothing to do with the other. He's using a deep bench because he has a deep bench. They got 2 transfers, one gets decent playing time the other barely any. Transfers have nothing to do with how they are being coached right now, their lack of a true superstar and abundance of quality players is why so many are playing.

The ONLY way a coach should feel obligated to give a kid transferring into any school playing time is if the kid was recruited to go there with the promise of playing time. But that would be recruiting, and is illegal. You want time on the court? Earn it.

After Week 3 my GMC Power Rankings
1.FF
2.East
3.Sycamore
4.Princeton
5.West
6.Middletown
7.Mason
8.Oak Hills
9.Hamilton
10.Colerain

I still have East at 2 on SOS and they shot 30% from the field Friday against Syc, I believe that was an aberration. East played super flat and with little to no energy, Sycamore was playing for the GMC title Friday night ?? Signature win for Austing as the Aves HC for sure! But I think East is still a better team and will be right there at the end with FF fighting for the crown. Middletown is a feel good story! It's early but I'm happy for Coach Moss.

They have more than two kids who transferred in on their Varsity roster… not talking about just this year.

Your analysis is completely dead on. Krounage played like there was no one other than him on the court. There would be kids wide open in the corners and he is taking deep 3 point shots. That’s not going to win games. I agree that Coach Adkins has to make a move to either insert Mitchell or Powell in the starting lineup to get that offense balances with the other scorers. Adkins would be a good backup option at the guard spot because the freshman Perry can get out of control at times.
