GCL South All Stars - First & Second Team -LOL

I guess the GCL doesn't abide by their own decisions. A few of their choices are an amazing slap in the face to far more deserving bowlers.

2002-2003
In Bowling it is felt that the 'League' format is working out quite well. It was agreed by all Athletic Directors that the athletes with the top-ten averages in Division would be honored as All-Stars. The top five being designated as First-Team, the next five as Second Team.

I will cut them a bit of a break. The history page has not been updated since 2006. So maybe they have come up with some super secret formula for determining who is on which team.

Red hi-lights are 1st team GCL South.

Blue hi-lights are 2nd team GCL South.

The scores you posted are total scores from the year. All team gcl is based on conference games only. For a better idea, click conference games only on te gcl site and then click gcl south only. The all gcl teams should make more sense. This was decided to keep teams who bowl in tournaments on tough shots and bowl non conference games at tougher houses from being at a disadvantage.

Coaches do vote and have final discretion. This comes into play mostly when bowlers do not complete the minimum amount of conference games to qualify.

Thanks for the info. I now understand why and what they are doing. I don't believe it provides a good reflection of who are the best bowlers. Take tournaments out of the equation and you would have a better reflection of who is better. As for the tougher house, by whose standards are they measured. Most bowlers have a house they feel the best at and it occasionally, if not often, is different from their peers.

I don't know. Interesting question.

On an unrelated issue, there is something that I find interesting in the use of subs. Its not so much that they are allowed it is how it effects the bowlers average. It is as if you can throw out your low scores and recompute your average. The number of guys that bowl a full complement of games is next to 0. You have guys that bowl there 25 games and boast a 195 average. What it doesn't show is that there were 10 games the bowler was on his way to bowling a 150 and was subbed for. Another guy bowls 40 games and carries a 195 average and they are viewed as equals. --- I think something along these lines needs to be instituted. If a sub is introduced in the game in the 4th or later frame the original bowler is credited with the lesser of his average going into the match or the score of the game. An exception can be made for injury.
