GCL Coed 2025

Badin has had a stranglehold on the GCL-Coed since 2016. McNick won the GCL-coed that year.

I say Badin until I see something different

CJ would have won or tied with Badin in a few of those years when they separated the divisions. And they went to state 4 times since ‘17 winning 2. I’d say it’s a battle between the two as it has been for the past 8-9 years.

Badin has won or tied every league title since the league's inception in 1992 excluding the 2016 season when the Rockets were league champs. That same year Badin beat McNick in the regional on the way to a state runner-up finish.
CJ will be very good in 2025, two DI arms in Hoagland and Kolton as well as the reigning Coed POY in Isaac Sullivan.

I agree that it will come down to Badin and CJ again this year. Badin returns all but 4 players, and only one was a starting position player. They won't have Chaney, who started the Championship game last year, as he's recovering from TJ, but Driessen and Niehaus are D1 arms and will add another potential D1 arm in Davis (all junior).

Their 2026 class has been highly touted and these next two seasons are shaping up to be two of their best yet. Should be another fun battle between them and CJ, who surprisingly squandered their chance at the conference (outright) in the last game of the season.

have any thoughts about alter? after having a huge comeback season and having "coach of the year"? as well as a close second for GCL player of the year Michael Russ

I don't.

I am not familiar with who is returning and who graduated. Badin beat them on back to back days 15-5 and 3-2 last year and didn't throw any of their top 3 arms.

Are they returning much of the roster? Any underclassmen adding talent to the roster? I'm just not familiar with their program.

Badin didn't lose much other than Verdin. CJ only really lost Frasure. McNick didn't lose anyone notable. Alter lost Russ and Miller. Fenwick lost Sova and Bezold. Carroll lost their only bright spot in Dunn.

I would put my money on Badin going 9-1, losing one game to CJ.
Badin and CJ will be at the top of the division like usual. McNick, Alter, and Fenwick will battle for the 3rd place spot. Carroll being the doormat.

Badin returns their whole starting lineup, except buckle. As well as their whole pitching staff which will be led my Driessen and Chaney like last year.

CJ returns Hoagland and Sullivan. Which will help them greatly for league games pitching wise.

McNick returns Gundler, Colyer, Bobo and Dannemiller. Kind of a bright spot for McNick in regards to years prior. Could see this team competing better than "Usual".

Alter returns no one notable as of last year.

Fenwick returns Grandstaff, Williamson, and Kauffman. They also are getting Carter Shouse who is ranked highly in the class of 2028.

Carroll returns Tipps as their only bright spot.

Didn’t Chaney have surgery? Who becomes the Badin #2? CJ also has Kolton who makes three D1 committed pitchers for them. I’ll be very interested to see who steps up to play potential spoiler amongst the rest

i think Niehaus will become their #2 but won't know for sure until season starts. I didn't realize Kolton committed (my apologies).

Buckle is a big loss for Badin, tying for first place in RBI's last year, with this years starting 3B Kade Bowling. It will be interesting to see what young guys step up on the mound. Recent TMU Commit, Chase Maggard, (4G 4IP 2K) might step deeper into the reliever role for Badin this year. Driessen will be the main workhorse and expected to have a good year after a strong Sophomore season. (12 G 54.1 IP (7-1) 56K).

Hoagland is tough, Sullivan recently committed to UDayton via. Twitter, Kolton to CMU. Its going to be a tossup when they face Badin. CJ definitely wins on arms IMO.

McNick's best player is Gundler, recently committed to Lincoln Trail CC. Not sure about any of those other guys u named other than Bobo is QB, correct?

Sova is a big loss for Fenwick as you stated, as well at Bezold. They got some good returning arms, and young promising talent. It will be interesting to see how long that Shouse kid stays with basketball from what I'm hearing about his traveling and such with baseball.

Michael Russ was the best thing to ever happen to the Alter program. Not expecting much of anything from them.

Carrol.... Tipps? I guess?

Overall lots of players signed/ verbally committed this year which should be exciting to watch. Badin has multiple, Fenwick has a few, not sure about Alter, CJ has multiple, McNick has one that I know of. Looking forward to another year!

Badin is always tough and never seems to lose much or always has someone just as good to fill the spot of a graduating player. They will have to use a young arm to fill or Maggard if he is committed to TMU and left-handed in the spot for Chaney not being in the rotation this season. They swing well and their line-up will be good again this year.

CJ returns their arms again this year Their pitching should be good enough to shut down any offense this year though with the arms that they have. Besides Hoagland and Sullivan they don't have a lot of experienced bats in their lineup. They may struggle against better offensive teams and putting up runs in higher scoring games.

I agree with McNick could have a good year this year. (They did split with Badin last year.) They could have a solid chance against CJ depending on how McNick's offense turns out. Overall solid fundamental team and could be a surprise team this year?

Heard Fenwick has 3 college commits as pitchers. Does anyone know how good they really are and what their impact was in the last seasons? (I'm assuming they are Grandstaff, Williamson, and Kauffman?) Fenwicks lineup consists of Grandstaff, Williamson, and Kauffman from a numbers standpoint. Shouse could mix some things around depending if he throws against Badin or CJ.

Alter returns Watkins, Tishuas, and Thompson who all threw large innings last year on the mound for the knights. They are a good young group of starters, except for Watkins who is a senior, and could see some things from them this year or in years to come.

Carroll has Tipps, Hoefler, and McGlothen who threw the majority of innings for them. Tipps is the only senior in that group but a solid left-handed arm who could surprise some teams this year. In their lineup they had Schmidt (who had 2 homeruns also 9 doubles), Tipps hitting over .300, and Reid who was hitting .292. Could have a solid middle of the lineup here but need to find some other support roles to fill the other 6 spot in the lineup.

Anyone know why Alter doesn't play over their break or do they go somewhere to play and don't count the games?

Based off last year, I would agree. Niehaus led the GCL Co-Ed in wins for the regular season. Chaney and Driessen were lights out in the tournament, so he never saw the mound. There are a few juniors who will see time this year on varsity. The most intriguing will be Davis. He's got the arm. If he can keep it in the zone, look for him to see significant time this season. Another promising lefty is Sergent. He's been working hard to gain weight and get the velo up. But everything plays off his curve, so he doesn't need to see 90. If he can locate his pitches, he'll play a role as well.

Yes, but they've got the pieces to plug and play. A lot of sophomores saw time last year, which will be instrumental in their confidence as they see more time on the diamond this season. Their 2026 class was highly touted for a reason. We will see if they live up to the billing.

McNick - Bobo tore acl playing football. Can’t say for certain, but I imagine he won’t be able to play baseball this year based on the recovery timeline. Heck of a ball player. Sucks it ended that way.
McNick has a deep sophomore class in baseball. It’s probably their best grade across the board in all sports.

Freshman class is a very good baseball class as well - a bunch of baseball first kids that play on high level summer teams. Think only a couple will potentially play varsity so it won't matter much this year but I do think the future is bright.

Wow, hate to hear kids getting hurt in other sports. Was football his primary? Thanks for the info (y)

Where are the three Fenwick kids going to college?

Sounds like they might have things rolling soon. The two kids that pitched against Badin last year in their win were freshmen (current Soph) and they had a freshmen first basemen.
Just as football, this is Badin’s league until someone else actually wins the GCL. Badin has a strong freshmen class of baseball players as well.
Fenwick has a stable of good pitchers. This will be a fun league to watch this year. And you can’t forget about CJ.

Yep. Know Badin's freshmen well. They are very, very good at baseball.

Yes. He was a 3x All GCL Quarterback. Finished 2nd in school history in all major passing categories. Not sure what his plan is for college but I assume he would have some opportunities.
Very good HS Qb. If he hadn’t been injured in Week 10 I believe McNick would have won R12. He could run, pass and a high football IQ.

The class of 2028 already looks very promising as, Carter Shouse (OF/P) at Fenwick is currently ranked #1 player in Ohio and Keegan Sawyer (C/3B) at Badin is currently ranked #4 player in Ohio. It will be interesting to see if Shouse stays at Fenwick after his freshman season. This could be a make or break for the falcons. Not sure how much time behind the plate Sawyer will get considering Senior Kyle Anderson has been set in stone at the position for the past two-three seasons. Maybe they will even put him on JV this year?

Interested to watch these two develop. Both great players. Badin has another catcher thats very good, but he's also just a great all around athlete and could play a lot of spots.

Carmella is backup and Anzalone is beast as well. It's a log jam behind the plate.
