Game Day Preview: Teays Valley vs Pickerington Central 1/14

Rematch of Last Year's District Championship Game on Tap as Teays Valley Visits Pickerington Central

The Pickerington Central Tigers will host the Teays Valley Vikings at Pickerington Central High School in a rematch of last year's district championship game. This time around, both teams will be meeting as members of the OCC Buckeye division.

Pickerington Central, despite losing Division I state Player of the Year and McDonald's All-American Berry Wallace to Illinois, is expected to continue its winning ways. The Tigers return four starters from last year's squad, including senior guards Rylee Bess and Faith King, junior forward Blossom Wallace, and sophomore guard Zoe Coleman. Additionally, Central has added junior forward London Johnson, a transfer from Canal Winchester, who averaged 18.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 5.0 steals per game last season.

Under the guidance of Coach Johnathan Hedgepeth, who is in his first season of his second stint with the Tigers, Pickerington Central is poised to make another deep postseason run. Hedgepeth previously led the Tigers to a 170-42 record from 2013-21, including a state title in 2018 and a runner-up finish in 2019.

Teays Valley, meanwhile, enters the contest with a 4-8 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the OCC. The Vikings are looking to bounce back from a challenging 50-33 loss to Newark on Thursday, where they faced difficulty in managing the Wildcats' strong offensive play. Cami Robins led Teays Valley with 17 points, while Tessa Horsley added a team-high five rebounds and Addie Keplar chipped in with five points.

I will be in Pickerington for the Tigers and hosting the Vikings; tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm at Pickerington Central High School.
