Game Day Preview: Teays Valley at Bloom-Carroll
By Jacob Merideth; TV Athletics Beat Writer
The Bloom-Carroll Bulldogs are set to host the Teays Valley Vikings in a non-league matchup on Thursday. This marks the first meeting between the two teams outside of the Mid-State League. Led by Coach A.J. Ireland, Bloom-Carroll enters the contest with a 5-8 overall record and a 2-6 mark in the Mid-State League-Buckeye Division.
After a strong 20-6 campaign last season, which saw them claim the Division II Central District championship, the Bulldogs are looking to bounce back. This season, they have secured five wins, starting with a 43-34 victory over Bexley on December 10. They followed this up with back-to-back league wins over Liberty Union and an overtime thriller against Logan Elm on December 17, winning 53-51. In the new year, they dominated Chillicothe 53-21 on January 4 and rounded out their wins with a 46-31 victory at Granville on January 17.
Bloom-Carroll will rely on the leadership of returning letter-winners Tessa Brooks, Emma Sorrell, Charlie Conrad, Adyson Luke, and Whitney Passen. The team has also added fresh talent, including sophomores Davynn Miller and Riley Westfall, as well as juniors Ashlyn Berta and Sylvia Haughn.
Teays Valley, meanwhile, comes into the matchup with a 5-9 overall record and a 4-4 mark in the OCC. The Vikings are looking to snap a three-game losing streak against former MSL teams, having fallen to Fairfield Union, Logan Elm, and Circleville earlier this season. They are coming off an OCC-Buckeye win over Logan last Friday, led by Tessa Horsley's 17-point performance.
According to Teays Valley Coach Trevor Younkin, Thursday's matchup promises to be an intense battle. "It's always a dogfight between A.J. and our team because we always have good teams and great battles," Younkin said. "I'm glad we still get the opportunity to play them."
The Bulldogs and Vikings are set to tip off at 7:00 pm from Carroll. This will be a makeup of a previously postponed game. I will be on hand to cover this matchup for Traffic Light Sports and TV Athletics.
