I actually knew him. I was in 6th/7th grade when he was playing at Ironton. He was kinda a hero because not too many guys from Appalachia make it to Ohio State.
I was in awe of how big he was and how good of an athlete he was. He ran the 100 in track and benched 400!
Then I was a little stunned and disappointed when this consensus all-American was barely drafted and quit the Steelers after a few days of camp. Blocking Mean Joe Green will do that to you, I suppose.
If I recall correctly, he came home and bought a car dealership in Ironton. From there I lost track of him.
The only NFL player from the Ironton area I can remember was Coy Bacon who played for the Bengals on the DL in the 1970s.
