ESPN / Major League Baseball

Sad news, ESPN has decided to walk away from major league baseball, which once was a staple of the worldwide leader in sports. It's just really too bad how far ESPN has fallen in the sports world. They've just become too big for their own good and they just want to push agendas rather than just be about sports.

Read and comprehend the article that YOU provided the link to.

It clearly states that MLB is walking away from ESPN because they did not want to agree to the lower rights fees that ESPN was proposing.

"MLB opted out of the contract that was set to run through 2028."

Jeez dude...

You are correct about the details, but he’s correct about ESPN pushing a lot of crap.

When you consider that Roku is paying MLB a measly $10M per year for the Sunday morning leadoff package, and Apple is paying $85M for Friday night games, ESPN was right to balk at the $550M yearly fee they are currently paying for SNB and the Wild Card Round. That's exorbitantly high. Manfred sucks at negotiating TV deals and ESPN knows they don't need MLB as much as MLB needs ESPN.

It would be nice if SNB went back to broadcast TV. I'm hoping CBS shows interest.

The NHL fell off a cliff after the league was dropped by ESPN in 2004, at one point Stanley Cup playoff games were being shown on a hunting channel that most cable packages didn't include, and the NHL has never really recovered. The MLS previously had TV deals with Fox and ESPN, now all games are on Apple TV. MLS is totally irrelevant after a couple years despite having the world's most popular player over the last twenty years playing in Miami. The same thing will happen to MLB if they move away from ESPN.

All true, but ESPN insists on exclusive rights for things like Sunday Night Baseball. Apple made no such demands for Friday night. Exclusivity costs big $$$.

Also, I cannot imagine CBS would preempt 60 minutes for baseball. It would have to be another network.

Are the Apple games not exclusive? I could have sworn whenever the Reds are on Apple, it was not in Bally's

Move SNB back to 8pm, and the games are over before the 11:00 news. A man can dream

Exclusive as in there are no other MLB games at that same time, as on Sunday night.
