The Panther grapplers will open their season this Saturday as they host the 19th annual Elder Duals. Beavercreek, Colerain, Marion C. Moore (Louisville, KY), Sycamore, and West Clermont will provide the opposition.
I know people are busy on the weekends, but if your schedule permits you should consider going and watching the grapplers, if only for a few of the duals. The Elder Duals are the best deal of the entire season. For one low, low price (maybe $8, surely $10 max) you get to see not one, not two, not three, not four, but five, count ‘em five, dual matches. That’s a mere $1.60 to $2.00 a match, you can’t beat that with a stick. Plus, once you stake out a spot in the stands, you don’t have to move the entire day because the Panthers will wrestle all of their matches on the same mat. How’s that for convenience? And I’m sure they will have programs and an announcer, which is nice and isn’t always true at other dual meets.
Beavercreek is led by two-time state qualifier junior Jeremy Sibrel. In addition, the Beavers return ’24 district qualifier junior Austin Kawanishi. Last season Elijah Papalios, then a junior, finished second at the Centerville sectional but for whatever reason did not wrestle at Kettering; look for him to be in their lineup.
Colerain is led by ’24 state placer junior Demarco Kates (seventh at 106). The Cards’ other two state placers, senior Kyser Kostoff (sixth at 165) and sophomore Tyton Kostoff (seventh at 120), now reside in North Carolina. The Cards also return senior Jordan Jackson (2x district qualifier) and sophomore Bryson Wurzelbacher (district qualifier).
Moore is led by their four returning ’24 state qualifiers. They are seniors Xavier Gonzalez (eighth at 138), Brody McKune, and Collin Williams; and freshman Santiago Gonzalez.
Sycamore, having lost 2x state qualifier Adam Gelman and 4x state qualifier and 2x state champ Eugene Harney to graduation, is led by their two returning ’24 district qualifiers, seniors Jacob Baron and Fintan Courtney.
West Clermont did not have a state qualifier last year, but the Wolves return ’24 district qualifiers junior Nate Wallace and sophomores Cooper Renner and Kellen Renner.
The action starts at 9:30 a.m. Be there. I will. Aloha.
