What's the thoughts on upcoming season for the Area teams in Columbiana County?
Why in the world would they do that? Did he have an experience at the high school or middle school level at all? Or did people just like himI thought it was a HUGE mistake for Wellsville to hire a little league coach last year. Going 1-9 with a 2 TD victory over winless Leetonia confirmed that IMO. They looked even worse than their record and I would be shocked to see any significant change this season
As far as the EOAC I would consider United the favorite until proven otherwise. They were the only team to win a playoff game last year.
I think this gets lost on way too many people, doesn't really matter what a team like this does in the coaching ranks or with strategy if they don't have the athletes to be successful at their schoolWhat significant changes can Wellsville do??? They have maybe 17-20 kids and the school is floundering as a lot of kids are migrating to Southern Local and or Beaver
He was their middle school head coachWhy in the world would they do that? Did he have an experience at the high school or middle school level at all? Or did people just like him
Who that is a qualified or well established coach looked at the Wellsville job and threw their hat into the ring for it? Nobody. Can't blame them for trying out one of their own who had been successful with their kids before. We're still a few years out before you can really make any judgement on the success or failure of that hireAccording to EOAC.NET Wellsville had 90 boys. That's more than VCS, Lisbon and Leetonia. And only 6 behind Southern. I'm not saying they should be a juggernaut, but at least they had some sort of resemblance of a team prior to 23.
I'm not doubting the claims of losing kids to surrounding schools. I'm saying hiring a little league coach did them no favors. Surely a coordinator would've been more qualified. Unless the pee wee Tigers were successful and people were saying " Hey, he won with those kids and he knows those kids"
I'm definitely not close to the Wellsville program , so I believe you when you say nobody else threw their hat in the ring. I just happen to know that Wellsville isn't devoid of athletes ( competitive basketball team for several years) and the job didn't feel like some lost cause job. They've beaten everyone in the EOAC this decade outside of United and Southern. You're right, there no way to evaluate this hire until year 2 or 3. But that was a significant step back last yearWho that is a qualified or well established coach looked at the Wellsville job and threw their hat into the ring for it? Nobody. For competitive basketball you need 3 really solid athletes in your entire school, the rest can be ham and eggers who hustle and you'll be fine. In football you need at the bare minimum quadruple that to be even competitive and you need them to have the right bodies to make a competent line up. It's hard for a school this size to have sustained success even if the structure in place is goodI'm definitely not close to the Wellsville program , so I believe you when you say nobody else threw their hat in the ring. They had 29 according to their roster last year and from what I hear over 30 this season. What significant changes can Wellsville do??? They have maybe 17-20 kids and the school is floundering as a lot of kids are migrating to Southern Local and or Beaver Local.
Close the doors.
I think he was a very successful coach in jr high and youth and they gave him a chance. The hire was very late as well because the former coach left for EL in the spring I believe and by that time most coaches have jobs but from what i am told the kids really like this coach. Why in the world would they do that? NEVER Coached JR HIGH FOOTBALL AT Wellsville..I think he was a very successful coach in jr high and youth and they gave him a chance. So? Maybe he coached jr high elsewhere. Who cares? Did you apply? Are you upset a kid without high school experience got a job you didn't? If the kids like the coach and his roster numbers are good which both seem to be happening, give him a chance to build something.NEVER Coached JR HIGH FOOTBALL AT Wellsville..
Nope, coached football no place else..numbers mean NOTHING newbie..So? Maybe he coached jr high elsewhere. Who cares? Did you apply? Numbers matter a great deal when your program isn't very good. Get 30 kids out and you can run full scout offense/defense, have JV games, rotate a few spots across the OL/DL and WE/DB to keep guys fresh. Clearly you have an axe to grindNope, coached football no place else..numbers mean NOTHING newbie..
Well, when you got 30plus kids and only 7 -10 know how tackle that's not good for a " Scout Team".. just saying..AGAIN numbers mean NOTHING..Numbers matter a great deal when your program isn't very good. Man, if only those 20-23 kids who don't know how to tackle had an opportunity to play 10 lower stakes games to hone those skills. If only there was some system like that out there that could make that happen....Well, when you got 30plus kids and only 7 -10 know how tackle that's not good for a " Scout Team".. just saying..AGAIN numbers mean NOTHING..
I mean at the small school level numbers mean quite a bitNope, coached football no place else..numbers mean NOTHING newbie..

Hopefully some discipline with all them numbers..it sure hasn't been good past few.Numbers mean everything, if you’re a decent coach you can develop kids, they tend to catch on pretty quickly if you know what you’re going. Someone musta got passed over for the job
